Interesting observation. Would you re-post this in the Site Suggestion Section so that we can follow up? Much appreciate.

The version of Linux you are installing. Is it on a "CD" instead of a "DVD" and the Windows "CDs" that you have. Are they CDs or DVDs?

Skillz, the XP install CD boot works fine when the small harddrive is inserted. It stops working when the big harddrive is inserted. Regardless of what is on the HD. This is definitely a BIOS problem.

The A10 BIOS update didn't do anything about either problem (binary copy doesn't boot and install CD hangs) I'm afraid.

Oh well. It's fine, I just dual-boot with HD caddies until the SATA port dies and/or I grow tired of the game that I need the XP for. I also got a drive bay HD frame.

Thanks everybody for your help. I'll send a "returning user impression" report as requested.
