Wanting to Build a fairly priced gaming rig.

I am looking at buying a rig for gaming and other functions. I dont do really hard core gaming, but do like having a laptop that will handle a fair amount of stress. I like the backlit keyboards on the M17x, as well as the 17 inch screen.

Guess im trying to find suggestions and imput. I have been reading through a lot of the posts in the forums here, but am mixed since Alienware does not offer the NVIDIA cards as an option on the i7 version. Still not sure if that is the build i need.

Asus G73 will save you over $1000? Maybe $2000?

I dont see that model on their website, did find some forums which had it on there. Couldnt tell if it had backlit keyboard or not.

It does have a backlit keyboard but no nVidia options on that one either. As of right now the ATI 4870 and 5870 are considered the top end of the mobile market. It's about a 10%-20% drop to the nVidia cards. We need to wait and see if that changes at cebit.

So maybe I should hold out a little while to see what new things come out. Im not in a hurry or anything, just slowly getting my feet wet and informed for what and when to buy.

Cebit 2010 is just around the corner (March 2010), though I feel that there is not much in the line of GPU and CPU, but more to the communication area.

CES 2010 just finished with only ASUS, ACER and HP promoting a few models with new hardware.

So yes, I would wait at least until mid-February.

cheers ...

Is ATI vs NVIDIA mainly a personal choice or are there clear advantages. I have seen some of the forums that state the ATI drivers sometimes are not as good or have more issues than the NVIDIA. Just wondering, and will go ahead a wait a bit to see what might come out if anything.

Again, thanks for the help. Will post here again around the middle of February.

When it comes to performance, ATI vs Nvidia is strictly a personal choice.

Nevertheless, Nvidia has currently the most stable drivers around and it has the Physx technology already incorporated.
