Sorry I haven't been posting many benchmarks. My system is experiencing "flickering" when in crossfire mode. I should have more time to troubleshoot this weekend.

Take your time Interesting about the flickering issue. Give us some screen shots on them when you can.

cheers ...

Even better, a youtube vid. It's more noticeable near the end. I emailed my resolution specialist and I'll see what they say.

That did not look good. A spike in heat or processing?

Regarding the SSD it will help load times of games and in between scenes, of course it depends on the game. When you say dual SSD I assume you mean RAID 0 which I wouldn't recommend RAID to begin with. I would go 1 SSD + 1 HDD like I did with this one. RAID doesn't support Windows TRIM and IMO, it's weak in laptops.

I hope they will come out with dual 5870
maybe latter this year

Yes i was talking of Raid 0
cos i thought that made it more faster
but guess not

Thank you

I would guess crossfire cable, if not power issue with the system board.

Generally Raid 0 (stripping) is faster, as the data is spread across both drives. but in the case of SSD drives the RAID function does support TRIM which is really required to keep SSD drives operating a peak efficiency.

I would expect that this issue will be addressed in a later driver update

Another FYI, Dell is replacing my system. The flickering affect is affecting my benchmarking.

wow GPU issues

power issues. I turned turbo mode off and the flickering went away. This is VERY bad. Buyer beware.

Do i sense a trend here that since dell bought out alienware it seems that the systems have became to put it nicely ChiT!
I'd bet they just have a rush to get a whole bunch of these new ones out the door and the QC wasn't perfect. That happens to a lot of products when there is an initial surge in orders. Look at the problems with the 27" IMac if you think Dell is the only one facing issues.

Given just what this system is capable of, I don't think waiting to get a second machine and "get it right" is all that harsh a price to pay. Seems like the cooling is up to snuff, and the benchmarks are quite stunning.

Keep 'em coming as you can

When I start pushing it the problems pop up. I can see a dramatic drop in the middle of 3DMark06 when it throttles itself down.

and confirmed by some other owners as well

Time for another (real) BIOS update and/or revision. My take is toward a BIOS update since the same issue can also be duplicated in "R1" (?) machines.

Bummer NWGuru.

No my R1 system didn't do this.

So is it a lack of power from the brick ?

Or is the 920 CPU too much of a power drain period ?

I am not sure about the 920 being too much for the comp. I have been trying to dig some more info about a competitor model (ASUS G73JH), and it does offer a 920 as part of its configuration. But I also heard over the grapevine that ASUS is still working on finalizing the BIOS on this model. Maybe there is some relation here.

cheers ...

Asus better hurry with that Bios as right now should start getting in customers hands on the 25th.

Combo of dual 4870s and the i7-920XM

Here's a 20K 3DMark06 run. Now I have to beat 20284.
