M17x-R2 - Core i7 CPU Info Thread! - Page 10

Think about it, notebook is not so different with any other hardware. That is new model has the tendency to be introduced before the software part has been updated and tested. Product positioning ( or $$$) is too much of an important factor for manufacturers to care about consumers to delay introduction of models to be sure that they run 100% first.

I'm with Dave, I just know the various bugs will get worked out. Few companies today come to forums to help work things out, so that is to their credit as well.

As soon as the changes I need come to the model, I'll have my next machine for a few years.

Absolutely. It would be nicer if there was no bug to start with We ask for too much, don't we?

well maybe the Bugs are more to do with the growing complexity of the laptops these days.

I have done software development/integraton it takes alot of work and time...perhaps they been cutting the testing time lol

Exactly. Hardware people always run ahead, leaving the software people to play catching up.

That hurts and is not fair. Software has to go through many QA steps, maybe we should force Hardware to do the same then we will be on par

Anyone have an R2 with 8gb? Wondering what you get for available mem.
with a 64 Bit OS you will have 8 GB usuable.

The motherboard supports x64 and the memory mapping issues where only 3.25 GB of the 4 GB limit was available is not present.
Was curious because Sager's P55M chipset machines indicate on some vendor's ordering page that only 6.25 will show up with 64 bit OS and 8gb mem.

Didn't hear anything on the many M17X posts, so figure all is clear, but asking to check is all.
I have not heard otherwise, then again have not seen many with 8 GB

No issues with my M6500, but I can check again when I get home next weekend

Since the memory controller is built into the proc if someone had the issue I would tell them to reseat the processor. If that didn't work and assuming they didn't have an extra proc to test with then they should RMA the system.
