or do what I do and sell if the upgrade is worth it...rinse and repeat.

I was skimming over the return policy for dell and was wondering what would happen if I ordered a R2 w/ 4870's then if the 5870's are released within the 21 day return period I sent it back with a "blah blah blah not hapy QQ" excuse got store credit and used it to order one with 5870's. Would that be cost effective?

That would work but they still have to agree to it. I haven't read that policy in a while but I believe it still states a 15% restocking fee. If it does then you'll have to come up with an excuse on why it needs to be changed.

Yeah it said "upto 15%" which I suspect with the right excuse is upto the CSR. If I get one thats having a good day maybe that can be reduced >.>

Edit: I'll be using the full power of my flirting ability while doing this remember with lines like "mmm your voice is sexier than my old E6600 overclocked with a broken heat sink"

lol. I've returned a few laptops in the past and have never been charged.

[quote=NWGuru;3147776]After all the talking I did about waiting I went ahead and ordered. I had a coupon that was expiring soon and didn't want to waste it. I know my contacts at Dell will hook me up with 5870s when the time comes.

LOL. I will make the same move / mistake.

USB is merely a convenience for me. Whether or not it gets upgraded to 3.0 is of no interest to me but it seems to be a very popular statement. Sandy Bridge is the upgrade I'm waiting for.

Was just reading up on Sandy Bridge- sounds impressive enough.

Well USB 3 for me is more for the data backups I like to do, I find E-Sata to be a bit of a pain, and USB 3 will be a nice plug and play option, and just as fast if not a little faster than E-Sata

It would be interesting to see Light Peak installed in a laptop.

True enough. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to have USB 3.0

But at the same time I'm a believer in fiber optics after seeing how it works with satcom/radio.

I too an waiting Nvidia on the I7 (with a strong preference for DX11, but willing to debate that) and USB 3 (mandatory). Since I don't turn around and sell in a year or two I tend to have these things a while and USB 3 will grow in importance with every passing year. Higher power output of USB 3 as well as a 1 plug external drive are nice perks (which ESATA doesn't have).

Anyway I "may" consider DX10 vs 11, but I do want the NV solution at least.

Bonus time might be that if it takes long enough we might see the 940XM cpu by the time Nvidia gets with the DX mobile chips. Read that AMD sold 6 Mil DX11 cards so far, which has to make NV say "oh cr*p" as AMD runs all the way to the bank

Have to see how things go. Might have to be patient for a few more months. My 1710 is still chugging along. Extended the warranty till 2011
