acer one original 8gb model

Thread Starter
I have an acer one netbook with the 8gb ssd in it......this thing is and has been painfully slow.
I know they are low powered netbooks.....but wow.....i mean this is slow.....a 500mhz old HP desktop would blow the doors off of this thing.
I am wondering if there is something wrong with this....or if this is normal?
It does work.....but i have to wait so long for it to fully load to desktop and for a command to execute.....that it does not seem right.
Is there a fix....i did update the bios.....but it made no difference....some people have said the SSD drive is the reason....can i get it to boot faster if i get a high performance SDHC drive and load windows on it?
Any help would be much appreciated.

I even done a install using an oem cd and the drivers from acer......hoping maybe "bloatware" was the problem.....but still very very slow.

A few owners mentioned that the combination of the 8gig SSD and Windows (XP) that makes the Acer One crawling. Put Linux on it, and it will be a different machine. Actually I believe them

You have a choice by upgrading it to a larger and better SSD, and try out Windows 7 (?)

cheers ...

Small SSD and the inability to only be able to write blocks not pages means any modification requires the complete block write. Very inefficient, slows things down. Known issue. No free blocks so all writes cache and pages writes really become block writes. Multiply by always and you see? Slow?
