Where to get a GPU repaired?

hey guys,
I read here in a few places (though cant find where or else I wouldnt be posting this!) of people on here who repair bad GPUs? I have a NVidia 7900 GS Go that just started going bad. I can run it for about 45 minutes before getting artifacts on the screen then eventually the screen turning black.

Is there someone on here who repairs GPUs? Id rather get it repaired then spend $300 on a new one.

Thanks in advance!

I think you might mean "baking"? You do it yourself try and search or wait for someone who has done to tell you more. The basics are you cook in the oven to get things that might of lost a connection or separated to reconnect/attach.

What is your notebook model and specs?

No, Im well aware of baking and the steps to do it. Baking is mostly just a temp fix to make your card last another couple months at most.

Ive seen people mention in different threads of getting their card repaired. Specifically this one guy sent the card to a guy in Canada who repaired it for him for about $100. Though, I cant remember where i read those threads as it was a few weeks ago. *sigh*

But, for what its worth, I have a Dell E1705/9400

Sorry I was not aware of. Good luck.

I know of the thread you are talking about. I believe the card the guy got fixed died like a month or so later. I am about to find it.

If you find it I will edit my last post.

If you don't find that thread then I go back to my second post.

I don't have time to check on this now but I think the thread I was talking about is this one: http://www.notebookforums.com/thread206665.html .

Baking is probably the easy and cheapest way If not I would personally go with a "refurbished" GPU with some sort of warranty. Repairing/Re-balling GPU is too tricky.

cheers ...

Not really a repairable option unless it is a modular card which I have seen in some DELL's.. Have you cleaned out the heatsink and fan assembly over the GPU?
If your system runs for 45 mins before you start having problems. You are most likely having a problem with your heat sink. Have you cleaned the heat sink contact aria on your GPU, then reapplied GOOD thermal compound to that aria? Then make sure that the fins on the heat sink are clean and clear. I have worked on some laptops, where the fins look clear from the outside, but the inside fins were full of lint.

Good luck!!!

check this out look toward the middle bottom part of the page it will give you a nice idea of the attitude of the guy (jared.cadis) who "fix" card in canada you will for sure notice is more then respectfull behavior. by the way, yes i am bias as i am felix in this page
nb: you will also notice that alot of people who have bought refurb card from dell just ended having them fail after a month so honestly the best would be reballing them with better solder but even then...
