No Firefox for iOS

The team behind Firefox Mobile (codename Fennec) confirmed that there would be "no Firefox Browser for the iPhone," claiming that there are "technical and logistical restrictions that make it difficult, if not impossible, to build the full Firefox browser for the iPhone".

It is said instead that Mozilla will be concentrating its efforts on Firefox Home, the cloud-based app for iOS devices.

This was being done thanks to a brilliant 12-years old mind - a Firefox loyalist on top - Alex Miller found a valid critical security flaw buried inside FF Browser!

A well deserving $3000 cheque for the bug hunter Respect!

So much for the professional security companies that play politics with browsers

Firefox 4 Beta 7

Firefox 4 Beta 7 hit the shelf with great performance boost and start up!

"The Firefox SpiderMonkey JavaScript engine now incorporates the new JägerMonkey JIT compiler, which, along with enhancements to the existing TraceMonkey JIT and SpiderMonkey's interpreter, add up to speeds that really show off today's rich Web apps. You'll notice this in faster start-up time, improved page-load speed and the performance of Web apps and games,"

Get yours and give it a spin!

Nevercookie Plugin

Anonymizer Labs Develops ‘Anonymizer Nevercookie’ to Contend With the Evercookie Threat

Anonymizer Nevercookieâ„¢ is a FREE Firefox plugin that protects against the Evercookie API.

The plugin extends Firefox’s private browsing mode by preventing Evercookies from identifying and tracking users.

Evercookie is a new, more persistent cookie form that enables the storage of cookie data in a number of different locations, such as Flash cookies and various locations of HTML5 storage. This allows websites to track user behavior even when users have enabled private browsing. Because an Evercookie stores data in locations outside of where standard cookies are stored, an Evercookie can rebuild itself unless users go through a number of steps to completely clear and reset their local storage.

Anonymizer Nevercookie simplifies this process and eliminates the manual steps required to completely remove Evercookies. And it does so without also removing all of the necessary cookies that a user actually wants to keep, such as those for browsing history and remembered logins. When Anonymizer Nevercookie is engaged along with Firefox’s private browsing mode, it quarantines an Evercookie and removes it after the browsing session.

Free plugin!

Firefox Minefield 4.0b11pre:

If things are going the way the past 2 nightly builds I can see an excellent Firefox 4.0 (official) to be offered before the end of February 2011. Performance is solid with little system resource needed, 98% of the extensions that I use are already conformed. As far as security concerns, sensible surfing and a good free virus scanner would do the job.
