I hope it stays so for the next few days. And if anything is as I have seen so far with Minefield, this 4.0 would be lightning fast.

Firefox 4 Demo Website

Mozilla has aired Web'O Wonder, a web site dedicated to the upcoming Firefox 4 that includes several Web demos illustrating the new technical features of the new browser.

Web O' Wonder exhibits creative ways to interact with the Web and Mozilla plans to add more demos to Web O' Wonder each week.

The new demos showcase the type of ingenuity and fun enabled by modern Web technologies. Mozilla's developers are experimenting with new technologies, trying to imagine what could be the future of the Web. HTML5, CSS3, WebGL, SVG, fast JavaScript and new APIs.

In addition to the interactive demos, with Web O' Wonder users can learn more about how each demo works, what technologies are used and check out behind the scenes video interviews with the creators.

These demos haven't been designed exclusively for Firefox 4 and they also work on other modern browsers, like Chrome, when possible.

Add-ons provide many useful features and functions, but they can also cause Firefox to become slower. Some add-ons can even slow Firefox to a crawl and make it difficult to use for regular web browsing. If you think add-ons might be the reason Firefox is lethargic, check the list below for some of the biggest bottlenecks. And remember, for best performance you should disable add-ons that you no longer use regularly.

Perfect way to know which add-on / extension is slowing your Firefox down ...

Mozilla plans see Firefox 5 coming out on June 21st

ff5o.jpg

As promised before Firefox 4.0 shipped, Mozilla has revamped the development process of its open source browser, making it more Chrome-like in terms of delivery. This means that, by the end of 2011 we should have Firefox 5, 6 and 7 out and about.

Every new Firefox release is set to go through three main phases before release - mozilla-central (like the Canary channel for Chrome), mozilla-aurora (Dev channel) and mozilla-beta, each one expected to last about six weeks.

The first and (for now) only exception to this rule is Firefox 5 as it will only be in the central-stage for three weeks and in aurora and beta for 5 weeks. Firefox 5 is now in central mode, with nightly builds already available to developers and enthusiasts, and is set to enter the aurora phase on April 12. If everything goes as planned then we'll have the first Firefox 5 beta available around May 17 and the final release on (or around) June 21st.

Mozilla's development schedule sees each new browser version going into the central phase as soon as its predecessor goes into aurora so Firefox 6 should be ready and outed in the second half of August. Then, six more weeks and Firefox 7, and so on and so forth until we'll run out of numbers. Or till the end of the world, whichever comes first.

Been using FF4 on Ubuntu and like 3.6 is is really, really slow - no extensions, no firewall, virus scanner and it is still slow..... IE8 and IE9 blow it away on a Vista machine... Mozilla need to pull their finger out....

Have you tried the special build for Linux from Mozilla? Can't tell you much under Vista - I haven't touched that OS for a long time now.

Yep, that's what I am on, Ubuntu 10.10... Upgraded to FF4 and so far things have settled down now... I am happy now... laughing.gif (I had to reinstall and it started off on 3.6x).. I love FF4 - using the Mac theme and the tab pinning is great....

So I am running Aurora and Nightly. Aurora (aka FF5) seems to beat Nightly (aka FF6.0) in almost every aspect, speed, small footprint. Issues are with extensions sad.gif Only WOT works,

So with all the name changes and maybe confusion, and in between the automatic update does not seem yet to work correctly here are the links that one can follow to pick up the latest version winknudge.gif

- Nightly (forget about Minefield, the name is being retired). Here one notes that the 64-bit is running sometimes 1-2 days (or more) behind

- Aurora (aka Future of Firefox).
- we have here 3 downloads to choose from, Aurora itself which is pretty much the nightly builds, Beta which is officially being released to the public and serves as the springboard to the official version of Firefox, and the Beta Mobile

- Firefox itself as latest stable official version

My preference? I am switching between Aurora and Nightly builds. Aurora when I need to some of the extensions.

Hope this would clear up some of the current confusion.
