Is a Blu-Ray Drive Worth It?

I've seen two acer aspire 5740, one comes with a blu-ray drive and 640GB hard drive. The other doesnt come with a blu-ray drive and has a 500gb hard drive. The price difference is £100.

As I'm sure the 500gb hard drive would be more than sufficient for my storage needs, I have one question is the blu-ray drive worth the price or would it be cheaper if its even a possibility which I'm sure it is to upgrade to a blu-ray drive myself.

Thanks

Khurram

Very enticing with only 100 quids to have an extra 100gig of disk space and a blu-ray with it.

Tough call, as both items will get cheaper as time goes on. I personally save the money on the notebook blu-ray and invest it in a real blu-ray 3D player, coming soon.

cheers ...

with the price difference so low i would probably get the blu ray player equipped model.

All comes down to will you make use of? If yes then go for it. If not then pass. I hate to admit but DVD's do almost nothing for me. I am a dinosaur.

if you're not sure that you need it, you probably don't.

I have yet to use a dual layer disc, let alone a blue ray one... My Vaio has a blue ray reader which I have used once for a blue ray disc... Not worth it untilblue-ray becomes full mainstream and consigns DVD to the bin (much like VHS did with betamax)...
