Aspire 5517 vs Satellite a100

Hey everyone,
Aspire 5517 versus Toshiba Satellite a100, for the same price

Can someone give me a good opinion on those two?
As far as durability, reliability and overall performance. I am not a gamer so I don't care about crazy graphic card (the Satellite boasts a Gforce 7600), more about all-around durability.
By the way, I do a lot of sound editing.
Someone told me that a lot of older notebooks actually perform a LOT better than their newer counterpart, regardless of amount of RAM etc...I guess better components in the older ones?? Is that true?

What do these cost? If you want to link it could save me some time. On your comment about older being better for sound editing? Not sure but do you mean the Texas Instruments fire wire chips? That is more of real time audio editing. Other than that not sure I follow the logic.

Say more I would be happy to offer opinion but let me know more?

Sorry for the confusion
The two are the same price (450 CAD)
As for the "older being better", that was just a random piece of advice that a friend gave me, he was saying that his HP Pavilion dv1500 (somethin like that) actually performed way better than his newer Inspiron...he just pointed out that some older models, with less "specs", sometimes outdid newer models with more features...
So, do you have any experience and/or advice with any of those two laptops?

I would personally take the Toshiba over the Acer. The GO 7600 GPU is worth the closer look than the HD3200.

And true about what your friend says. Older model does not mean lesser performance than many of the new ones.
