HDMI out with ATI Mobility HD 3650

Sorry, me again!

Today I connected my 6530G (Win7) to my 37" LCD TV to try out Media Centre as I've sorted out all my media nice and tidy, only to find I could only display in the laptops resolution of 1366x768. This left a black border all around the picture which looked terrible especially when I did play a movie back.

I thought the laptop was capable of displaying full HD 1080p as written on the keyboard? Is this just a driver/software fault or something I'm missing?

My Fn+F5 doesn't do anything anymore, but when I connected the HDMI cable it instantly displayed on the TV aswell as the laptop (dual screen). Could this be the problem?

Thanks guys!

Yep, since it would pick up the supported (default) resolution for the internal LCD. You need to set the TV as the main display and then you can adjust the resolution.

Just done this and the TV was the main display, however the drop down menu (within CCC - Wizard) only went as high as 1366x768!?

Check the manual and cable and see which version of HDMI you have (1.2, 1.3 ...).

In Display Properties, try checking allow computer to display in other resolution modes.

Thinking what qhn said in last post did it? If not let us know so next time we know?

But good to hear all good now.

Sorry, I was in a rush and should have explained it.

For some reason it wouldn't let me choose different display resolutions yesterday apart from 1366x768 and under. I followed qhn's first post again today (turning mirror display off) and it instantly gave me resolutions up to 1920x1080! No idea if I did anything different, chose different menus, if I missed it yesterday (but I looked everywhere) or whether it was just temperamental!?

I still have a black border of about an inch around the screen though!! Really bugging me now as I thought changing the resolution would have fixed it! I have my TV display set as 'Exact Scan', but tried different options with no success - unless I use Cinema or Super Live which stretches the picture and makes it look awful!

I guess it's just one of those things eh?

The black border that you experience has to be adjusted and tweaked on the TV itself. Just keep playing with some video settings (zoom, stretch etc ...)

In ccc is there a fit to screen option? But I think I agree with qhn on controls on monitor itself? I assume the monitor is 1080?

Yeah it's a Toshiba 1080p LCD TV.

Picture is fantastic even with the border, just a shame it's not full screen which I thought is what was meant by full 1080p playback on the laptop.

Thanks for the help!

Nowhere in the Toshiba manual to give tips as how to stretch/fill up the screen?

Possibly... but the only problem with the TV is that it doesn't save individual settings for each input so if I was to change anything to get rid of the bars, I'd have to reset it all back to how it was, then back again next time etc...

I was hoping it would be a laptop setting lol

Still, I'm glad I got 1080p now and can put up with a slightly smaller screen

Thanks

Nice to hear that it can satisfy your needs, even to a certain point. Enjoy.

cheers ...
