Some new Asus'

The K42JR-A1, K52JR-A1 and K72JR-A1. Those are 14", 15.6" and 17.3". Cost is around $900 ($850/$950).

What do they offer? Well the main are i5 430m 2.26Ghz and HD5470m 1GB GDDR3.

The one that has caught my eye is the K42JR-A1, mostly because I like the small form factor.

Not a powerhouse but for the cost and i5? Looks like good value.

Asus has done a good job making the K series affordable. And a decent (not great, but not low-end either) video card in a 14" chassis has been one of their specialties.

Can anyone tell me why these model laptops do not even appear on the Asus website?

Also, why is there so very little information about these laptops on the internet?

Because they are very new? Asus does not sell direct, they use resellers. The best is XoticPC (sending me free shirts) (but I like) and I believe GentechPC is also. A few others also. Here is a link to Xotic. You are in the States or no?

Thanks.

Unfortunately not. I live in New Zealand and want to buy the K52jr-a1, but no one here stocks it.

One store stocks the K52JR-SX052X, but it is not as good.

You can order from Xotic but you must pay shipping. Asus does have a global warranty. Many people buy from them from other countries because at the end it costs less. Consider?

Yeah, I am considering it.

Is there anything other than power cables that will be for the US?

Edit: What do you think about EXcaliberPc.com ?
they're decent. They have or had a forum account under EXPC Man, as I recall.

ExcaliberPC has a BBB rating of C-, link. but they have only had two BBB complaints and those were resolved. So to me that looks acceptable and confuses me why they get only a C-?

Kinda off topic a bit here, if you gals/guys don't mind.

What are some good models that ASUS has up until now? Example is following; even with their quirkiness HP ZE4440 and eMachines M6800 series are being considered well made in my book, having survived the time, the same as with my ASUS Z92T.

Just need to get inputs from personal experiences so I can make up a chart to see the up and down of manufacturers.

cheers ...

Just wanted to say thanks for the information guys.

However, upon reviewing my countrys importing laws, ill have to pay 12.5% Goods and services tax on the laptops price, combined with shipping, and other associated fees the laptop gains approximately $400 of cost. (~250USD). So it really doesnt work out worth it, combined with the hassle of waiting weeks for it to arrive etc.

So im instead im going to have to stick with the K52JR-SX052X or spend more for the N61JA-JX046X

Both listed here http://www.playtech.co.nz/category.p...on=show&id=248 if interested.

Edit: Is the N61 a new model, like the K52's etc?

K42JR-A1

Very Interesting. Any ideas on a suspected launch date. Will it be Q2 2010 or sooner?

ETA: I just found my own answer - first week of February.

I currently have a U6S-A1, I would rate it worlds above my emachines m6810 in terms of being well made.

Some further thoughts,

- I love that the video card is an ATI and DX11 capable. (I've had nothing but trouble with Nvidia's in laptops, and I've been thinking of holding off for something with a decent ATI card in it.)

- I wonder what battery life will be like.

- Why must they put 16:9 screen resolutions on laptops? Sure I watch a few movies a week on it, but I use Excel and other programs that benefit from 16:10 ratios much more than that. (Very Minor)
