Vostro 1700 - Is it easy to replace the screen?

Thread Starter
A friend of mine has a Vostro 1700 and due to some accident or other, the lower third (approximately) of the screen is broken and unusable, it remains black. He has hardware warranty, but no complete care and will not be able to blag anything.

Is it easy to replace a screen? They can be found on eBay for a reasonable amount. I can strip the laptop down, but I've never had to separate the screen from the lid. Are there any pitfalls that I should be aware of?

Yes you can replace the LCD yourself. Watch out for breakage when you remove the flat ribbon cable behind the LCD. It is quite flimsy.

cheers ...

basically you remove the front bezel, and then several screws are removed from the hindge assy to remove the LCD display .

The Dell site has a complete tare down guide on their site, goto Support section and looks for the Manuals link.
