Q9100 FSB OC

I have an M17x with the q9100 and want to overclock. My only option since i have a locked multiplier is increasing my FSB past the stock 1066. I am having a hard time finding info on the net though as to what i should be looking at for a target?

Checked through this one yet?

I did look through that one and I notice in the screenshots that the FSB is at 1333. Do you think that is a good starting point?

Hard to say. Check out NWGuru posts, he mentioned that one can start with a tad lower.

Thank you

No problem. NWGuru keeps a good eye on OC posts, he would give you plenty of informative tips.

The last time I did OC'ing was when we still had single core chips. I just noticed one thing on mine though. In the bios it says the multiplier is 9.5 but on CPU-z and when i calculate it is only actually 8.5

I am out on this one, not sure what to tell you. But I am sure other members will drop by soon.

Start at 1200 FSB AND memory. Work your way up from there, it will be 2.55Ghz. If the system fails to boot because of a bad OC it will reset itself after the third failed boot.

I ordered it with the memory at 1333. So should i slow the memory down or leave it where it is?

You should test it for stability. Changing the memory bus from 1333 to 1200 (666Mhz vs 600Mhz double pumped) isn't slowing it down. It's changing the fsb:memory divider to be 1:2. Slowing it down would be taking 1066 memory and changing it to 1200. At that point the latency goes up.

Ok, I booted up and tested with 1333 memory and 1200 FSB (I did that before seeing your reply). Ran superPI stable and also did 3Dmark vantage stable. Should I take the memory bus to 1200 or leave it where it is and continue increasing my FSB?

I found it was most stable when keeping the ratio at 1:2 but I never owned a Q9100. Keep testing to find the best OC.

Will do currently at 1333 FSB and memory and it seems stable and not getting hot yet either

Correction, after running 1333 on both mem and fsb through some stress testing found that it was unstable. Currently at 1210 on fsb and mem. If it is stable then I will continue going up 10

Correction, after some stress testing the 1333 setting was unstable. Back to 1210 mem and Fab now. Gonna do some testing there and if all is well I'll go up 10 more.
