Vostro Screen Replacement

Hello all,

I have a Dell Vostro 1500 (bought in 2007). I recently dropped it on the ground and the screen backlight got damaged. I ordered a new screen off eBay. I need help figuring out whether the screen that I ordered is compatible with my laptop. Here are the specs:

Original Screen:
Manufacturer: AU Optronics
Model: B154EW02

New Screen:
Manufacturer: AU Optronics
Model: B154EW02 V.6

The original screen doesn't have any version number, but the new one is V.6 (I'm assuming V stands for version).

Both are 15.4" WXGA, 1280 x 800 and Wide (16:10). The only difference that I can find is that the original screen is glossy, while the new one is matte.

Does the version number (or glossy/matte) make any difference?

Thanks in advance,
Anirudh

it should not matter

The only issues with some screens is the compatiblity with the inverter.

But until you try you will never know.

But based on the part numbers, I think your OK

should also mention, if your not sure about how to do this, Dell has the complete service manual on thier site in the support section - look for the Manuals link.

Thanks Dave.

I just installed the new screen. When the laptop starts, the screen is grayish white with a few vertical lines. After a few seconds, the vertical lines disappear but two narrow vertical patches come up. After a few minutes, faint patches become dark and the ssurrounding screen becomes blue and green. I tried removing and reconnecting the screen, but it remained the same. I'm guessing it's an inverter problem.

Q1) Can it be caused by something other than the inverter?

Q2) If it is the inverter, is there a way to find out whether it is malfunctioning or whether it is simply not compatible with the new screen?

Thanks,
Anirudh

Plug in an external monitor and see if any improvements first.

The laptop has been working fine with an external monitor (that's how I've been using it since the original screen stopped working). So that rules out issues with the graphics card or the motherboard. With regard to my previous question, I think the inverter is working fine because the back-light on the new screen lights up bright. Also, the video cable (that connects to the screen) is fine, because I could see images on my old screen (only no back-light).

This just seems to rule out everything other than the new screen itself!
