Simple enough argument for me. But with integrated SD readers not always working correctly, it is much easier to get an external via USB.

except that it has no USB either

for me, it just seems way too feature limited to be of any interest.

Pass!...Then again I don't buy apple products for myself. With that said the wife wants an ipod touch for Valentines day.

I'll be honest and I'll say that I wouldn't mind receiving one if someone wants to give me one.

But the lack of SD card, user exchangeable battery and no multi-tasking definitely doesn't make want to buy one.

I love how all the naysayers are like "if it doesn't have <this> I'm not going to get it!"

Reminds me of when the first iPhone came out. All those people who said they'd never buy it because it didn't have 3G or MMS or video, etc...

Very true statement on "any" electronic devices

Let me put this another way then.

What is the benefit of me getting it? What does it provide that no other device can?

As far as I can see, nothing. It runs the same apps as an iPhone/iPod Touch, and I never got one of those either. It merely has a larger screen. The only way I could really use one is as a control surface for a DAW or playback software, but honestly I would rather just program one for a real tablet computer, not an Apple device because of the loopholes I would have to go through. Heck I already have plans to program one for my n900, and distributing there is really simple.

In fact I see no real benefit at all. To much DRM and loops to jump through to get my own stuff onto the device. As a library device I would prefer an e-Ink based device for battery life.

And unlike the iPhone and iPodTouch, I don't find myself being anywhere close to the only one that is saying this, this time around. Reception has been rather lukewarm from what I have read, sure its an Apple, but a lot of people are asking the same question... "What benefit does all this DRM and lockdown provide me?". Apple hasn't provided an answer yet. The iPhone and iPod touch provided a seemless way to integrate your phone as the central point in your digital life. The iPad on the other hand does the same thing, but in a device that isn't nearly as portable and not nearly as likely to become the center of your digital life, merely one aspect at best. The 'innovation' if that is what you want to call it, that provided the success and driving force behind the iPhone is not there IMO. Not saying it won't be a financial success, just from the more rabid apple fans it likely will be. Heck my video counterpart at work wants to get one just for one series we are looking at doing, though I haven't heard him mention any other reason other than that series. But it has no real benefit for me or anyone that I can think of.

All that naysaying happening, I will grant that the price is at least low enough to be noticeable. I have a long list of things to get before that though.

I really don“t hate the product. It, however, does not satisfy my needs for a mobile device.

I agree that it is a nice product but it is a niche product, I wonder how the Kindle will respond...
