This is the key here, for any electronics really. If you offer a product that consumers can take and run away with it, you have a winner.

Altec Lansing Octiv Stage

Audio vendor Altec Lansing has released the company's first iPad-focused audio system, the Octiv Stage (MP450). Designed for use on a counter, desk, or dresser, the Octiv Stage provides a large cradle that can hold an iPad in portrait or landscape orientation, at a number of different angles—including horizontal for occasional onscreen typing sessions. The Octiv Stage also supports iPhone and iPod touch models.

According to Altec Lansing, the Octiv Stage's audio components have been optimized for both stereo audio and voice reproduction, the latter to enhance movie dialog when viewing video on an iPad. As with most dock-cradle speaker systems, the Octiv Stage charges your iPad, iPhone, or iPod while docked.

The system also includes an infrared remote control that allows you to navigate onscreen iPod-app menus, as well as a 1/8-inch (3.5mm) stereo auxiliary-input jack for connecting other audio sources.

For $150

Bit too much for me

Best Buy’s iCapsule keyboard case

Best Buy’s iCapsule keyboard case turns your iPad into a netbook

Quote:
The iCapsule case bears the branding of Best Buy’s subsidiary RocketFish, and features a spacious keyboard and a netbook-like clam shell design.

Quote:
Images from the iCapsule’s user manual, below, show that the case can display the iPad in both portrait and landscape modes. The case also has a large handle on its back for easy transportation. The iCapsule’s keyboard connects to the iPad via Bluetooth, and the keyboard features a few shortcut keys for convenient access to copy/cut/paste, search, and media playback controls.

Source.

Sadly, the iCapsule relies on two AA batteries - this could be a deal breaker

For my employer's 20th anniversary, the executives decided to buy all 1800 employees 16gb iPads. I'm posting from mine right now. It has come full circle now. The success of the iPad is why I have my current job, now I have an iPad.

Didn't think much of it at first but the ui is nice and the RDP app is great for doing some sysadmin type duties. It integrated pretty well with the company network too. Color me impressed.

I was pretty tight lipped about where I worked when I was a field tech. Not so much now. I'm a sysadmin at ARM maintaining the workstations our engineers use to design CPUs like the one used in the iPhone 4 and iPad (Apple coupled our CPU with a PowerVR GPU in the A4 chip).

Funny thing, Apple helped fund ARM's start so they could design a CPU for the Newton.

That's pretty neat MrEvil. I read an article about Apple and ARM a while back and found that Apple and ARM were much closer.

Quote:

Apple's first run at a tablet computer, the Newton, was unceremoniously killed in 1998 once Steve Jobs took over as CEO for his second run with the company.

The Newton is regarded as failure, but Jon Sculley, Apple's ex-CEO, argues that it actually saved the company from going completely bust. It also helped to launch to ARM Holdings, the successful chip design company.

In an interview with Cult of Mac Sculley says when Apple wanted to build the Newton it wanted a new microprocessor. Apple and Olivetti (an Italian computer company) took a 47% stake in a struggling British company named Acorn to design the Newton chip.

Acorn eventually became ARM Holdings. It IPO'd in 1998, just when Apple was killing the Newton. And just when Apple was at a low point in its history.

Apple sold its stake in ARM, picking up around $800 million, says Sculley. Without that money Apple might have gone under. So the Newton (and ARM) wound up saving Apple in a very roundabout way.

Today ARM's designs are at the core of the chips that power iPhones, iPods, iPads, and the Apple TV. So, you could say in another roundabout way ARM is now helping to keep Apple in business.

Good poker player this Steve Jobs ... knows when to fold, knows when to hold, knows when to walk away ...

Another successful note for the iPAD is its acceptance in business environments . JP Morgan announced that iPAD will be the de facto office tool for its Global Investment Banking unit, and GAP is rolling its mobile point of sales module (EasyPay) on, what else? iPAD. Shoppers probably see this already in some stores.
