iPAD, iPAD2 ... simply iPad - Page 2

It doesn't hold any appeal for me. Personally, I wouldn't mind an iPhone, but it's tied to ATT, and I don't like the ATT network after some bad experiences in the past.

Now This looks pretty darn cool.

It's not for you, fine. Truthfully it's not for me either. I could, theoretically, move almost all of my computing over to one but I'd rather have the versatility of a laptop combined with my iPhone and Kindle for everything else.

What I find amusing is the people who completely just dismiss the entire thing for lack of one feature or another and not for any rational reason. "They're not getting my money till it has flash!" "It doesn't have a camera; I won't buy one till it has a camera!" "It's a piece of crap because it doesn't multitask!"

I mean, seriously? Come up with a real reason and not some kneejerk reason. I came to my decision that I don't want one rationally...I know it's strengths and it's shortcomings and I know that I have no need for it.

Now, if someone wants to give me one I'm certainly not going to turn it down.

Reminds me of when the first iPhone came out. All those people who said they'd never buy it because it didn't have 3G or MMS or video, etc...
Most of the people who are saying the iPad is a great product are Apple fanboys. I'm still waiting for someone who doesn't buy Apple products to be excited for this.

What you are describing doesn't sound like a kneejerk reaction. Not being able to multitask is a huge deal. If it isn't worth it for someone till it has a camera, front-facing camera, or has flash, is a perfectly reasonable response.

The thing is, as I mentioned above, most people I know don't have a valued use they can put this thing to. Just like your 'kneejerk' reaction, there are people going through and buying it because it is the 'New Thing' from Apple, but can't provide good reasons as to why they are buying it either. Most people thinking about it that I have seen, haven't been able to come up with a reason to buy it, and thus are not buying it because, it doesn't have a front facing camera so they can't use it for video chat, or it doesn't have flash so it is limited in its potential as an internet browser/tablet, or it can't multitask so using it as an on the go machine is very limited.

my primary problem with it is it uses iPhone OS. if it had OSX instead, I would possibly get it, because at that point it would be an open and full OS, and I could also install Linux or Windows if I wanted to use something else as well (honestly im not rly a big fan of OSX, all my experiences with it have been pretty bad). its crippling the possibilities of the hardware with the iPhone OS, which is why I'm completely not interested.

of course, it is using an ARM based proc, so as is OSX wouldnt run and Windows would be out of the question, but Linux would run fine. but it really wouldnt be difficult for them to stick a ULV Intel or VIA in it. they designed it to be dumbed down, so it wouldn't have any use to people that actually would really get into using it.

interestingly enough, both of my parents want them and neither of them are mac users. they want it basically to be a bigger ipod touch for them to use while at sites and such.

they look at it as a conveniet way to show people pics of stuff and to check emails while they are out and about. both of them dont like the ipod touch since they feel the screen is too small for their needs, and dont want to carry a laptop since its more bulk than they need. but they would still represent a very small segment of the population.

Someone here does a splendid job in explaining what "lack of Flash support" and "lack of multi-tasking" mean to the iPad - nothing!

One must also remember:

- Apple has the tendency to start "slow" on any of its products. 1st GEN, 2nd GEN etc ... anyone?

Camera already in the work

Quote:
"The camera slips in the frame, the lens fits in the hole, the LED (light) that indicates that the camera is on, fits, and the ambient light sensor hole is also correct," the company said Monday. "It appears that the plans to have camera in the iPad is a reality."
Rumor.

And another rumor ...

Quote:
...
rumors circulated for a long time that Apple might be working on two different sizes for the screen of the device. Some had the device as small as 7″, others were saying it would go up to 10.6″. (The actual size of the iPad is 9.7″.) But the information we’re hearing is that Apple is thinking much larger for another version of the product, maybe all the way up to the 15.4″ size that it currently uses for one version of the MacBook Pro. If you think that would be way too big for an iPad, we’re also hearing that this other tablet would be quite a bit different from the one revealed last week. Namely, it could run a version of OS X much closer to the traditional version that runs on Macs.

If there is any truth to that, we could learn something as soon as Apple’s WWDC event this year, which will likely take place in June (just as it does every year). Apple typically uses the event to show off its new iPhone hardware, but it is first and foremost an event for Mac platform developers, and the past two years have seen OS X as a major component. This included two years ago when Snow Leopard (OS X 10.6) made a surprise appearance and developers got a very early peek. There is already talk that WWDC 2010 could bring a similar peek at OS X 10.7. If there are some significant multi-touch components to OS X 10.7, you can expect the rumors to start flying about this new device that I’m talking about (or possibly touchscreen iMacs).
Rumor2

Couldn't help myself.

More relevant details are coming out ...

. no-contract 3G

The iPad 3G will be offered with AT & T subscription without obligation. One can subscribe or unsubscribe on the flight. One option in preferences will indicate the current status of data volume used. In the example of a subscription package 250MB charged $ 15 per month in the United States, the user will receive an alert message at 20% , 10% remaining from the subscription. One can choose to subscribe additional 250 MB for $15 or for the flat rate $30 or do nothing. An improvement in consumers service.

. Rotation blocking:

The button that disables vibration in iPhone is also present on the iPad. Since iPad does not have phone feature, this switch will be used to lock the screen rotation. If one notices when the iPhone is being laid flat on a table, it tends to go back and forth between the two modes unexpectedly, this little flaw will be corrected on the iPad.

. "mono" listening mode:

For people with hearing problems on one ear, it will be possible to channel both left and right channels into one in order to enjoy all the sounds in one ear.

. AVI support:

With the arrival of an attachment to download photos and video cameras, Apple had to provide some compatibility with the formats of video cameras. The iPad supports AVI files using MotionJPEG codec with a maximum throughput of 35 Mbps, a resolution of 1 280 x 720 pixels and a PCM stereo. Since iTunes has never supported AVI format or the Apple TV, this could change with the release of the iPad.
