Hello all,
Much respect to everyone; I have found the forum to be very interesting and useful. At this time, I am ready to purchase a new Notebook/Laptop to replace my old, worn-out Toshiba Satellite S1800. I would very much appreciate any thoughts/advice. Thank you!
Here's the situation:
1. I can spend somehere around $1500
2. MUST have illuminated keyboard (This is a deal-breaker feature for me).
3. I am NOT a gamer but would like youtube videos and DVDs to play smoothly
4. Battery life is very important to me; would prefer at least 4 hours (of email / web surfing)
5. Don't need a large screen because plan to buy a large monitor and full-sized kb for desktop use. In other words, I am hoping to use this as a desktop replacement that remains portable.
6. Must be able to burn dual-layer DVDs (I think this is standard nowadays...)
7. My usage: Internet, email, intensive statistical analyses, online database searches, manuscript prep, academic presentations, cd/dvd archiving of data
I am so tired of waiting for my slow computers to return the processor to me, and really want something that is fast and responsive!
BTW I used to work in computers (but it has been awhile) so I am reasonably saavy re PC hardware and software. Don't know much about MacBooks and am afraid that if I switch over some of my stuff won't run anymore despite Apple's promises.
Any thoughts? Thanks again.
