HP DM3 Intel vs. AMD

Hey guys I was looking to buy the DM3, HP's website does not have the Intel's listed anymore as a option, just AMD. I did read some reviews that even though the Intel is at 1.3ghz it is still faster and less power hungry as the AMD 1.6ghz Turion Duel-core. They also offer in the base the standard AMD Athlon, but dont really see that a option when you can get a duel-core for $25 more.

Basically if specs were the same in all other categories, which would be better 1.3ghz intel vs 1.6ghz AMD?

Ebay has a lot of the Intel CPU DM3's listed still.

This is what I read from HP ...

Quote:
... the HP Pavilion dm3 comes with a choice of processors, including the latest Intel Core 2 Duo or AMD Neo Dual Core processors. It also offers consumers a choice of Intel shared, ATI or NVIDIA discrete graphics.

When configured with the AMD Neo and ATI combination, the HP Pavilion dm3 offers PowerXpress, which provides performance graphics when plugged in and switches to shared graphics when unplugged for superb battery life...
This AMD Neo would be a good fit if one configures it with an ATI card. Even when it is not, I would still take an AMD CPU and ATI combination.

cheers ...

To OP the Intel wins overall.

So regardless of the Intel one using integrated graphics and the AMD using ATI, the Intel still outperforms? or are we just talking CPU power not graphic and overall performance?

I consider anything "Integrated Graphics" if it doesn't have its own dedicated memory as opposed to just using the system RAM. So if it says "shared" memory anywhere on the graphics card section, it really doesn't matter who makes the gpu itself. I'll give you an example of why its the memory that really makes a difference. After overclocking my ram speed 20%, I overclocked my gpu 20% yet only got a 6% benchmark improvement. That means RAM speed is leading the bottleneck by 14%.

To OP what IGP's are being used? Yea the 3200 beats the 4500HD. DR/owned if you really expect a direct proportional improvement you are mistaken. It does not work like that, sorry.

I'm speaking from experience on my own laptop. Fact is anything that doesn't have dedicated memory, its the RAM speed that's the limit guaranteed.

I agree but you said different? That is all I was questioning. I increase my dedicated VRAM 10% I do not think I will get 10% improvement. That is it, nothing more.
