ok ok some people may take offense at this.. but anyways, I could only afford the one year warranty for my notebook and I have about 6 months to go. Knock on wood.. no major problems yet. But has anyone ever called up and basically faked a keyboard replacement etc etc.. just to have them send you some parts .. for the future, just incase something would break, you would have a backup and you will not have to pay for it. Has anyone ever done this.. and what did you request? I would like to do what I can for when my warranty expires...

Just call and state that your keyboard is not working to your satisfaction, such as making Clacking noises,or sticks at times, and state that you have no problem putting one in yourself , Dell will probably send you a replacement and then have you ship in the bad one, if not they may have you send the Laptop in for Repair, Depending on your warrenty,in that case I Imagine they will just replace the keyboard ......Remember if you are not satisfied with the keyboard then have them fix it.. nothing Dishonest about that at all ........

Yeah, the thing with that is why bother if everything is running fine? You have to ship the "faulty" parts back anyway, so what happens if you send back your perfecty functional keyboard and use the "new" one they send out (which is refurbished) which fails after your warrenty expires?
Basically what I'm saying, is that generally if hardware is going to fail it fails in the first year, or after like 5-10 years. If you have everything perfectly functional and you're lovin' it, then why risk getting a replacement that may be faulty and fail outside of your warrenty period, costing you money?
So not only is this idea dishonest, it also does not make much sense if everything actually is working...
