Bios upgrade for an emachines... GRRRR

Hi,

I have an emachines m2105 that came standard with a celeron 2.8 with a fsb of 400Mhz

I (maybe wrongly) bought a P4 3.06 FSB 533 and the note book does not boot with it.

I put back the celeron and I am running on it.

The motherboard is the :W730P4

And the bios if 5 years old!

I can't find any bios upgrade anywhere I am suspecting that If I upgrade the bios I maybe able to use that chip...

I found this online

http://crystalrank.info/CrystalMark/...ng.php?ID=6161

The guy is using P4 3.06 FSB533 with my same motherboard...

Any tips or help?

I know is an old laptop but I would like to tune it up for a few bucks.

I also would like to know the maximum RAM Supported...

None of which is advertised by eM

Thanks!!!

The maximum ram supported is 1280MB, taking in consideration that one of the slot is hard to get to, without tearing the machine apart - DDR266 PC2100.

I would not try updating the BIOS, same board does not mean it can take it.

cheers ...

Thanks,

I have already teared the thing appart and replace the "inner" ram with a 512Mb stick. Though it was a PC 2700 and it is running fine...

How would you do to sum up 1280?

1gb on one and 256 on the other?

Correct. 256MB on the inner slot, 1gig on the outside.

If I can ask How did you came out with that number? Trial and error?

I find it strange that one slot can take a 1gb stick while the other is stucked at 256.

No, it is stated so from many memory shops online. My eMachines used to have the same set up until I took it apart and pop in 2gig (with some tweaking).

It does not have to be stuck at 256MB, it is only because they delivered that way. And since it is not so easy to get to it, they just leave at that.

cheers ...
