$500 less than if you bought new less the BR not an option at this time. If this is the model you really want then yea it might be worth it for you. But you can get a better or equal performance new system for that price or less if you don't have to have AlienWare.

How are the 260m SLIs? Will they last long in the long run? Will it be able to play games in a couple of years?
I don't see why not. Many of the old "SLI"s are still performing fine with games, after many years.

cheers ...

Yes 260m is a good card and two is better. Like I said if AlienWare is your cup of tea you are getting what you can't even get new (BR) now. So think about $600/$700 off for a 6 month old system with a little warranty left that you can extend? Not a bad deal.

I will refrain from telling you what I would get for $1600 i7, BR, backlit keyboard and a better graphics solution, 8GB DDR3 RAM @1333Mhz built like Stealth fighter. And what reseller I would buy from as this is an AlienWare section and I am if nothing else a man with manners.

Edit: "G"ee I hope I live to be "73" and "j"ust have a "h"ome that is in "A1" tip top shape. And before then I hope to see many "xotic" places and have a killer "PC".

Did you see that official word is that air intake will be coming from under the keyboard on the G73? I'm going to go buy a big box fan, lol.

Would this be a good desktop replacement? I don't have a desktop so its either this laptop or a desktop.

ummmm correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't Alienware warranties non-transferable?

Actually I think you can do it through the Dell site now
post #14 of 34
yes now that Dell has taken over i am sure the warranties can be transferred now

but it maybe worth a phone call to verify

Last note - there is a newer version of the M17x out with the intel Core I5/7 CPUs you may want to look at.

Can this laptop with those specs from the ebay link be a complete desktop replacement? Its either this laptop or a desktop. If so, will it last me 2-3 years?

Thanks!

Anyone know?

It will always depend on what you do with the system now and in the future. If you want to try to future proof as much as possible get the R2 with the i7 setup.
