Reinstalling windows 7

i'm considering reinstalling windows 7 home premium on my laptop and i'm wondering if i can use a regular windows 7 home premimum disk instead of the "restore/backup" discs that came with my acer laptop. Reason for doing this is because i do not want all the bloatware from the original backup discs. is this doable?

Yes it is doable. You can pick up the relevant drivers / apps from Acer Support Site. It will be a bit more work.

Thanks, reason for asking is i'm thinking of grabbing a 40gb SSD drive which will be my boot drive with windows 7 and keep my 500gb hdd as my storage/apps drive.

qhn: have you had any experience with this type of setup in a laptop? i'm wondering if this is a smart choice?

SSD and "normal" drive in the same notebook? Sure, users do it all the time. Since you are using Windows 7, just make sure that the SSD can support "trim" command to take advantage of Windows 7.

yup i'll be using the 40g as my boot drive and will be installing a 500gb hdd where my optical drive used to be through a "caddY". yup the intel x25-V definately supports TRIM. just trying to do my hw before the hardware comes in.

Sounds like a good plan.

qhn: do you know if its at all possible to run raid if i replace the optical drive with another hdd through the caddy? i'm unsure if the current acer bios supports it since the caddy is an add-on and not really an "acer" option.

I could not find anywhere about this model (5739g) supporting Raid. I could be wrong. Let us wait for Michell to confirm yay or nay.
