Who's Getting an Alienware M11x? - Page 6

I'm just happy I have a system to play Borderlands again. I have an external monitor coming this week which should make things much better.

got home late so it will be a while AND (drumroll):

The SATA drive was not connected! That's right, the HD was "missing" on first boot. Happy to report that its ok now but it took a LONG time to resolve because I didnt want to open the unit until support options were tried.

Support Malaysia might be just fine bu they were not open at 9pm when I had the issue and Dell chat didnt support my service tag. Did a bit of fudging on the ID# for chat and while their effort was nice and friendly it didnt resolve the issue. Soooo pop the lid and discover that the two retaining screws were not installed. They were present just not screwed in. The bottom panel was holding them in position for me though

All that means I got a late start and will be out of town this weekend.

Really? It wasn't connected at all?
Yeah! You got it. I'll post a pic later. Still doing config/setup stuff and need to sleep soon

Damn, that's so odd. I must be a very lucky individual- No problems with mine and it's been 3 months now.

I'm just about to order the m11x; this is one sweet notebook.

I know CPU (higher) frequency does not mean the same thing anymore, but I'm still having difficulties going as low as 1.3Ghz... I haven't read much "bad" on this yet; anyone else?

I still need to do the bills first, but knowing me, I'll have one ordered by tomorrow.

You might want to hold off for a little bit- There's talk of a refresh coming in a couple of weeks that might include the core i3/5/7 processors.

Performance in Win7_64bit @ 1.7ghz is about the same as my old E1705 with XP@1.8ghz. Cannot see diff in regular work tasks.

I do not have that machine from which to compare anymore though.

Well noted; thanks!

Do some reading on what the gains are with those processors. By waiting you might be able to get the i-series at the same cost as current model. I doubt it but possible.

Current models might keep dropping in price too - bonus!

Me? Didnt see enough value in waiting. Been waiting months already.

I found the news about i3/i5/i7 coming to the m11x. Thanks again guys! I'll wait a bit.

Cool! I'm glad you saw that video, as I'm fairly certain there will be a refresh sometime soon.
but i7? Really?

There is some debate about which processor exactly will be used and what that will mean in terms of performance. I suspect the biggest gains might be in non game applications.

Good news is that I doubt they made changes in the casing! Early birds might be able to upgrade later

There really is a lot of debate as to the performance gains of a ULV i7, since it's not a quad core processor.
