Like …

1) Where is the Avatar on the notebook, is it on the
cover or above the keyboard or is it just a desktop display
option that can be changed by the user later?

2) Are there any pictures of the Avatar options like
is the "Alienhead 3D" lighted. What is the "Alienhead Glow"
option or the "Alien Chrome Red" option. How can you order
a M11x if the website doesn't show you a picture of what
the options look like.

3) Do they give you all the wallpapers so you can change it
later, if you can then why is it an option if you can change it later?

Thanks…
The Avatar is a desktop item

If it's what I'm thinking, you should be able to change them out. It almost sounds like that theme set found on older AW systems (like my m5500) whereby you can switch them out whenever you want.

The one thing that I find a bit disappointing is that it's using the Intel SU7300 instead of an LV Core i5...

It definitely looks appealing, but it makes me think back to February 2008, when I ordered the newly arrived M15X. After three months of use, reports started to pile in about the plastic hinges getting hot and becoming brittle, falling to pieces and preventing you from opening the lid of the laptop. After Alienware treated me like crap during the resolution of that issue, I hate them and I don't trust them. Give it 3 to 6 months to see how these little guys hold up before you jump on the bandwagon. Plastic hinges? The industry standard is metal. I've never seen that hinge problem on another laptop, but if they cut corners with that, what else are they skimping on?

Good luck. I'm sure it will be great until normal wear from usage kicks in after a few months.

I am truly sorry that you had a bad experience.
The only time I had a problem with my AW was after 4 years of use. The antiquated Geforce Go 6600 soldering started to come loose so I baked it in the oven and it runs like it were new. The customer support that I received was great- a month after I received it I got a call from AW asking me how I liked my system and wondered if there was anything they could do for me. I still have the laptop, though it's now my 'Deployment Rig' when I deploy with the Air National Guard.

Exactly the "holding back" point here - at least for me.

cheers ...

I just don't understand why they decided to go w/ the SU7300...
Shame really ... they just cheapen it out.

cheers ...

I guess to get the battery life that they are touting they went w/ the SU7300, but who knows?
They already said that under "intensive" game (really) battery would go for 2 hours plus. I don't even believe this, SU or not.

Maybe there will be an m11X R2 in the pipeline?

cheers ...

Thanks for the info mb67 about the Avatar option. I just now looked at the M15x ordering options and there it says that all Avatars will be included with the notebook (these words are missing from the M11x ordering options.) So you are right, that its just a desktop option that can be changed later. Thanks..

no problem. Glad to help out.

I was looking at another ultraportable that has the new Core i3-350m, and decided to take a look at the cpu specs. TDP is 35W and I do believe that the SU 7300 TDP is 10W. A big difference there...
True, but it also means some throttling (down) in the performance.

cheers ...

Is this machine really a gamer? I would love to pack something this small on the road and still be able to game.

That is what it claims to be. But how much gaming is gaming, we are still waiting for a personal review here

There is some reviews already out there in the net as well.

cheers ...

I would have liked to see a Core I3/I5 option with these

Agreed with this, kinda disappointed that Alienware did not include it. Price would not be so bad that turn consumers off, but the lack of a decent CPU would.

cheers ...
