"Infinity screen" question

If you buy a notebook from HP with this screen option, can one be assured that the physical LED panel is free of fingerprints, dust, lint etc before it was closed off with the "infinity" cover?

I've read some bad reviews about this design and a lot of people are complaining about dust, lint, etc somehow getting inside between the LED panel and the "infinity" panel. Also I've heard complaints about the keyboard scratching the "infinity" panel when the lid is closed (there is no space between the "infinity" panel and the keys apparently...

I'm not sure which to get, with or without "infinity?" I like the clean look the "infinity" gives but I don't like the regular screen bezel with regards to the webcam...instead of only seeing a small circle with a lense like you do with the "infinity" panel, you see the entire 'housing' of the webcam in the bezel...it looks kinda tacky to me. Also a lot of people have complained about the "infinity" displays being less vibrant, dull and washed out with HUGE glare issues.

I'm not sure which way to go...can anyone help? I returned my DV7T quad that I just ordered and received yesterday...the screen was cracked on it when I took it out of the box...that one I had ordered WITHOUT the "infinity" option.

Thanks and hope I haven't confused anyone lol.

Since "infinity" means just an extra clear plastic overlaying the LCD (for me anyway), I would get a comp without it, and put in a mobile folio myself

It is just gimmick, in my book.

Yeah I agree to a point, but the infinity does look nicer then without it (especially hiding the webcam's footprint. I'm still not sure what to do lol. I've been a Dell customer for 10 years and would stick with them but they are really slacking lately in systems, designs and availability.

Are you able to get to a store and check these out for yourself? I picked this clip on youtube that you probably can have an idea what the infinity screen "feels" like.

Yeah I've seen them before and decided against them because the infinity cover seems to attract every little thing to them (dust, hair, lint...you name it and it's all over the thing.) So that is why I went with the non-infinity cover. That's why I'm even more confused now on what to do.

Flip the coin. Or visit a store.

How do I comment? Really not sure? After your HP overheats and kills your MoBo I doubt the screen will be of much concern.

That said those were at one time considered good screens. Sorry for the pessimism but not sure anymore. I would get a DeLL better support?

Care to expand this statement a bit more powerpack? As I understand that overheating can kill mobos of any brands/models, and that having owned (and still use) more than 6 HPs over the years, I find it disturbing to read generalizing statements putting down HP (AND "any") of the notebooks out there.

But do enlighten us all about the time where HP gave you your personal overheating that kills mobo issue, when that happened and how you perceive HP nowadays. Your well researched posts are always a pleasure to read.

cheers ...

Actually I just noticed that Apple also has the same type of covering on their Macbook's, are theirs REAL glass or fake glass like the pc's? I still don't understand why the pc companies call them glass? As soon as you see the thing in person and touch it it's quite obvious that it isn't glass lol.

I suppose HP does advertise it as "Infinity glass", it's probably plexi glass haha.

But yes, the MacBook pro's do have a glass cover with the exception of the Matte option.

Interesting as in another similiar discussion on this site, people say Macbooks do not have glass as glass would be dangerous if you dropped the notebook it would shatter plus it ads more weight to the system.

Strange lol...

I am pretty sure this is glass.
