Blue Label Laptop Line at Best Buy

As promised, electronics retailer Best Buy has added to their Blue LabelTM family of laptops by adding three top brand units to their line up. The Dell Studio s15z-2249CPN, Sony Vail VPCS111FM/S and Toshiba Satellite® E205-S1904 have joined Blue Label to round out their trio of laptops that have features their customers asked for. First perhaps a bit of background:

In 2008, with the help of customer feedback, Best Buy launched the Blue Label laptop line that promised to have all the features that their consumers really wanted in a laptop. Things like longer battery life*, thin and lightweight design, backlit keyboard, stylish and durable casing and more. You know, the good stuff. And in 2008 they delivered. Now it’s 2010, and not only have they added three new laptops to the Blue Label line, they’ve added more features and threw in some pretty cool bonuses along the way.

Although there are many attention-grabbing features that gets this techie’s heart aflutter, the coolest is the addition of Intel® Wireless Display, a CES People’s Voice award winning technology that allows you to wirelessly stream Internet TV, online video, music, photos and all digital multi-media from your laptop to your TV. Watching on a 50” plasma what you used to watch on a 15” laptop screen is kind of awesome, to say the very least. And they’ve made it super easy. With just a touch of a button, your online entertainment is on your big screen. Wowza.

Highly noteworthy is the addition of a 2-year manufacturer’s limited warranty and 30 days of Geek Squad support. Talk about post-purchase benefits.

Other features include up to 5 hours of battery life* so you can stay unplugged and on the go longer. With a total weight of under 5.6 lbs and under 1.2” thin, these laptops are built with portability and durability in mind. And performance and reliability aren’t an issue with i5 processors, 4GBs of memory and 500GB hard drives. Also included: backlit keyboards and one year of anti-virus protection. Perfect for the business savvy customer or as a home-based system, Blue Label laptops start at only $1,199.99 and are available exclusively at Best Buy.

Required legal wording
* Battery life tested using MobileMark 2007. Battery life will vary depending on the product configuration, product model, applications loaded on the product, power management setting of the product, and the product features used by the customer. As with all batteries, the maximum capacity of this battery will decrease with time and usage.

I picked up one of the Sony Vaio VPCS111FM laptops. Replaced a Dell XPS 1530. I am very happy with it.

I am having a display issue with the wireless display with my Dynex LCD, but netgear is aware of the issue and working on it.

I get about 5 hours of battery life, could get more if i was more aggressive on the power saving features. I use the laptop plugged in 99% of the time, so battery times do not really matter to me.

It runs fairly cool and is quite.

Its more responsive the the Dell (t7700) was.

The only down side for me is I am unable to use the system encryption feature with truecrypt. It will past the pre-test, but once the actual encryption is started (and completed). The system will hang at the bios screen completely unresponsive. I am unable to even access the bios. I have to remove the hard drive and format it to get the system to boot with it again. I tired a few different times.

I got the Sony, and I am happy with it but I was not told that the processor speeds are different, and may have gone with the toshiba since it's something like 2.26 mhz (sony) versus 2.53, and cheaper to boot. Is this a substantive difference? Anyone have an opinion on what's the best of the bunch? I like the look/portability with the Sony, and it was represented to me that the processors were the same i5 intel, but I would reconsider and go back to Best Buy and make them exchange it out (and waive their "restock fee") if I didn't get all the proper info from the floor salesman.

Thank you.

Whilst the Sony has a "slower" core-i5, it does have a better graphic card according to what I read, based on the shared memory amount that it supports, vs the Toshiba.

I would stay with the Sony. You can always try to negotiate for a higher core-i5 for the Sony (?).

All three have the Core i5 430. they boost up to 2.53 when needed. The Toshiba is no faster
