Part it or Fix it? M1730

Hi everyone. It has been a few years since I posted, but I have been a member here for over 5 years. I wanted to get an opinion about one of my M1730 that recently started giving me the dreaded "invalid AC adapter". The Mobo needs replacement I am very confident about that since I have a 2nd pretty much never used 1730 I used for testing things like the AC adapter.

The big issue is they are both out of warranty. I could buy a MoBo off ebay for $150 and repair it and sell it, or just part it out and use the money for a new dell with warranty. I just do not like having a laptop without a warranty since I travel so much.

So the config is:

T8300 CPU
SLI 8800GTX
PhysX
2Gig
200G 7200rpm HD
reg CD/DVD burner
Good LCD with no dead pixels

I am trying to scrape together $1000 to go to the purchase of a new machine, but I doubt I could get that for the parts. But if I invest a couple hundred into it, and then try to sell it, would I boost the value that much to make it worth my time?

opinions?

Thanks,

BigTymer

A running used M1730 probably would fetch you around $700-900. Fix it up and it would last you for a while longer. And why bother with warranty if the good old system runs and does what you want?

cheers ...

I say sell it and buy a new one under warranty

Travelling on the road = greater chance at damage to the laptop.

I have like the same machine, just a tad bit more ram and a blu ray player. I love this machine actually, how did your MoBo die?
