MSI has two new models.

GX640-098US: 15.4" WXGA+ 16:10, i5 430m 2.26Ghz, 1GB ATI HD5850 (GDDR3). $1123.65, link.

GX740-o79US: 17" WXGA+ 16:10, i7 720QM 1.6Ghz, 1GB ATI HD5870 (GDDR5). $1414.50, link.

2 way different categories (size- and performance-wise).
Both could not be compared I believe (if this is what you mean...)

Not comparing to each other as price wars from the same company is well not price wars. It puts the others on notice and might help the price performance curve for consumers. Asus already has two high value performance in these categories these are less. That puts AlienWare and Sager/Clevo on notice. I see price drops across the board.
