I stopped for now. People are reporting lock ups with the system playing the Asus screen saver. I've been testing it and the system is getting too hot without a cooler.

You OC it in the GPU BIOS? Can you tweak more with say AMD GPU clock utility? I mean if unstable just restart? Or is that it for the card? Just asking as I do not OC at the level you do.

But I see you have paused. Does that mean you can't go higher or just rethinking how to do?

800 core, 1200 mem.
Wow, wondering if this is an "on-going" issue here with Asus. At least that is always happening with the 2 Asus I own. Asus Screen Saver can sometimes lock the system, I disabled it (use another screen saver) all together long time ago.

Interesting.

You can use AMD GPU Clock utility but I've been editing the vbios and reflashing the cards.

I stopped because I'm getting my M17x ready to be returned which includes swapping the processor. I put an i7-720QM in it to test the power issue and the proc did work well. Now I just put the 920 back in and I'm backing up the system.

There are a lot of Asus marketing errors here. There is NO air flow from the front or under the keyboard. All air intakes are on the bottom and they are very small.

The fans are on the back, they are not on top or underneath the GPU/CPU like other systems. It does not run as cool as people think. I used a laser thermometer on the keyboard and it hit 100F.

Uh oh, this does not sound promising for this model ...

No! NW is a maniac. The fact it did not catch on fire or blow up while NW tweaked is a good sign for this model.

Now, why did I not think about this?

Good job NW. If I asked for HWMonitor running in your screen shots would that be rude?

Also and this is just some speculation. I noticed with my much less bleeding edge but never the less OC'ing of GPU. I started getting less results increasing core clocks. Increasing memory clocks had a greater impact? I decided it was relative on gut instinct. Make any sense and if so are you at that precipice?

Wow

Wow, you are bent on getting that score

Increasing the memory clock is more stable than increasing the core clock. The max core for this card is somewhere between 800 and 850 but I haven't found it yet.

Regarding hwmonitor, when I start benchmarking with the clocks this high I start taking extra measures for cooling. The temps that would be reflected would not be real world temps for regular usage. Of course if your just curious I can do a couple with it on.

Still ticking. My last upgrade which is the SSD is coming in today. The G73 will officially have cost me more than the M17xR2. It's a great value!....yeah right.

One on one comparison with same peripheries configuration? I just configure one here with the basic specs (4gig memory, 500GB drive, br 2xRW) and it would put me back €1800.

Question

Just curious, Where is a good place to purchase Asus G73jh? I saw it on Newegg, and xoticpc but wasn't sure if anyone had a different site preference for purchasing. (want to see all the options before I commit to either AW M17x or G73) Thanks again~

The specs in my sig has the price neck and neck with the G73 being a tad bit more. I always get discounts through Dell and my M17xR2 was no exception.

I bought from Newegg. The trick right now is finding someone who has them in stock. Xoticpc, powernotebooks, gentech are all out of stock.

That is a good set up then. With what you have, it will cost me €2000, in par with USA.

cheers ...
