I looked for it on their download site and couldn't find it. I'll try again. Thanks anyway.

You are right, if you still don't have it when I get home, I'll upload it.

yes I'm taking lot of cooling precautions right now including sitting outside. My CPU is rated 55W and so far I've hit 106W with it. it would be fried already without the extra cooling.

ziddy very nice write up. I think between you and NW we get a very balanced insight on this model. We all know NW is a hardcore maniac and does many things so the rest of us do not have too. Saves others lots of money. But your review I think is good added info to NW and at the same time more mainstream. It applies to a larger base. I did not quote to save space but I read it all. You and I are in similar camps. NW is simply beyond me in all ways. I should surrender my title "mobile maniac" to him.

Before I embarrass myself NW you know TDP and power draw are not the same? But yes 160w on a 55w is insane and you must be doing a lot! I can't remember what I pushed my 35w to but? Like 55w max.

Keep it up you maniac!

Edit: They stole my title! My identity, I am a registered user? The pain. Hmm? User control panel............................

Yes, Thermal Design Power...it's the reason why I have to do this outside in the cold.
Come over here and you have plenty of "cold" Not that you don't already have it.

Thanks NW and ziddy for your info and reviews.
I am putting the money together to put a G73 on order probably through Xoticpc.
A few of the other distributors are in California where I live and I can avoid sales tax through xoticpc and save a $100 or so.

I have a few questions for the floor:

Would you get the Blue Ray player or just the CD/DVD multi-drive?
Is not having eSata a drawback for those that use it?
Do you use RAID 0, RAID 1, or no RAID? If you use RAID 1 do you have any issues with the RAID controller going into verify if it detects something is wrong?

I probably would have a few more questions, but this is what I can think of right now.

Hi scott.
#1) I would not because I have not done the BR plunge yet. I do not have the need for it. But it comes down to the individuals needs. I will say the cost for the reader is not extreme, planning on watching BR movies? I am not at this time.

#2) You know the answer is yes. But do you use it? I have but do not use. And consider vs a system with 1 HDD and eSATA. This can do the same as has two internal so you effectively could be in the same place other than the portability of eSATA. I wish it had both eSATA and express card but it does not so we are stuck. I could handle it but for some a real issue. The lack of firewire surprises me also.

#3) Me no RAID yet.

No sales tax not exactly the ringing endorsement Xotic is likely looking for but I am sure they will take the sale regardless.

PowerNotebooks is in Nevada?

Catalyst 10.3 Betas are good for the G73. Another G73 owner just posted over 9,000 on Vantage with stock parts, no upgraded parts. O/C the GPU a bit though.

Impressive. ATI is leading the race at the moment for sure. And nViDia just announced another delay in the "new" cards until at least H2-2010 or early 2011.

Hello folks,

I am looking forward to getting the Asus G73jh.

However I have a few delima:

1. I am considering whether I should get the 160 GB Intel SSD or not. At newegg, this SSD is $499. The ugrade through xoticpc is $475 more. However, if I upgrade, I would not get the 7200 rpm 500 GB which at newegg is more than $100.
Should I just get the 500 GB drive and buy the SSD at another place like newegg and hope for it to go on sale to buy it cheaper?

2. If I don't upgrade to the SSD, I can upgrade the CPU from i7-720QM to the 820QM.
The replacement from the 500 HD to the SSD is quite easy but the ugrade to the CPU is not so if I want to do it, I have to do it in the beginning and need to be done by xoticpc.

So what is a better upgrade? CPU or SSD. What would give me a better performance?

Hmmmmm.....I just noticed that I still have the old signature (made many years ago) of my old Dell M70 laptop. The 3Dmark05 score is pretty pathetic compare to today's standard. The Asus laptop would blow my M70 out of the water. The M70 is the laptop that I am using currently.....sad....

CPU!

I would do as qhn said if that was my choice. But the SSD will give a better overall perception of increased performance. Of course for both it does come down to what you are actually doing. Few tasks make use of the full power of a CPU. But when a request is made for data on the drive the near instantaneous response of the SSD vs HDD gives the feel of performance.

That all said in a way too simple way. Let me make one thing clear. In real time gaming the SSD will have zero effect. It will speed up load times and level changes. The CPU will have a slight effect on real time gaming. With the two mentioned in most games it will still be minimal as the GPU is handling the heavy load.

If I ordered I would order stock but part of that is I am cheap.

I would get the SSD over the CPU and I would get it through xotic so it's warrantied with the system.

I think that I would follow your suggestion since you are the "guru."

Kidding aside, I think that I would upgrade to the 160 GB Intel SSD for :

1. Warranty through Asus like NWGuru mentioned.

2. The faster speed of SSD would make things speedier and thus you have a "feeling of improved performance" due to improved CPU but in actually you only have i7-720QM.

3. I don't know if this is true but with the low heat of the SSD, the system may be quieter. Power consumption is not a big deal since the laptop would be plugged in most of the time.
I am not sure if the fan would spin at a lower rate if I use SSD instead of the regular HD. One of the two hard drives is a regular hard drive anyway. I am not getting two SSD's.

Hope these are good reasons to upgrade to the SSD.
