Latitude D610 Screen Problem

Thread Starter
I have a Dell Latitude D610 laptop that is having problems with the screen. I see the splash screen fine, but then the backlight goes out (can see the desktop if I tilt the screen or shine a flashlight on the screen). I've hooked up an external monitor and everything works fine. I've switched to CRT&LCD mode and the external monitor works, but the laptop screen comes on for a second and then goes off. Also, if I push the lid close pin and release, the laptop screen will come on for a second and then go out again. I've tried to reload the video driver and that didn't work. I'm out of ideas of what to try...anyone have any ideas?

I think that you have said it correctly with the backlight going out on you; meaning either backlight repair or lcd replacement.

You might also want to review the cables connection first.

you may want to try a new Inverter as well

I took apart and made sure the cables were all connected. Everything looked good. I still don't understand why the screen will come on for a second and then go off when I hold and release the lid close pin-almost like it is going into presentation mode. Looks to me like the backlight is working fine, it just doesn't know it's supposed to stay on for some reason. Anyone think doing a windows recovery would work? With this being an older laptop I really don't want to sink any money into it...

Does not hurt to try a re-installation. Inverter is quite cheap and easy to replace though.

I have seen ths problem caused by

1. Bad Drivers
2. Bad cable
3. Bad inverter
4. Bad LCD Display
5. Bad CCFL Bulbs

6. And in the case of swapped parts - incompatible parts

So eliminate the things you can easily, then start on the others. The Cable and Inverter are the cheapest parts.

The issue with obtianing parts is getting the rights ones.

Some are Generic some maybe actual System pulls that match what you want 100 %

takes a little research.

If you can find a complete LCD assembly from your model of laptop that maybe the easiest way if it comes to that.

Hi,

I have also a screen problem on a DELL D610. This is what the display looks like:

In your opinion, would it be more a problem of screen, cord, etc?

Thank you,

I would say the screen itself, if it works fine with an external
