Sager NP8120 is now shipping!

OK I think many have been waiting here it is. First saw posted 2/11/10.

What it packs!
Mobile i7
GTX 285m SLI
3 HDD's

Makes this the current performance king of gaming notebooks currently sold. The i7 and GTX285m SLI has no competition on that claim. M17x currently only offers GTX280m SLI and Core 2 CPU's. So for the moment give it up to Sager/Clevo.

SLI comes standard. Starts at about $2,400 $2,335 w/cash discount. Very well configured, i7 920XM, 8GB RAM, 3x500GB HDD's. BR reader and OS $4,000.

So if you got the cash and 12.5lbs doesn't scare you. This is currently it bar none.

Here is a reseller link if you want to look at.

8120 is also configurable on PCTorque's site.

PowerNoteBooks is also a good vendor. You can buy directly from Sager but I do not recommend. Even though that is ultimately where it will come from and be serviced if need be. It will not save you money. I also feel the vendors are set up better for customer service.

In North America it is better to buy a Sager branded Clevo than a non Sager branded Clevo.

Interesting observation here. Can you expand a bit more?

OK this is new information I only became aware of in the last week. First I will give my interpretation and then just link the source. And of course as most things pp is Xotic biased but pp knows Xotic not the only reseller so much does apply to other resellers also. Paragraph two is the important one.

Sager is the only North American dealer in the U.S., in the event a Clevo Branded laptop has any motherboard, graphics card or other system component failure Sager will be the ultimate party servicing your laptop. Protect your investment and purchase from a Authorized Sager Dealer.

So the ones like I believe MTech and Ibuypower that private label the Clevo's rely on Sager to maintain their warranty work.

Yea I know a retailer selling point but worth consideration. Maybe someone from one of the resellers could elaborate on the complicated relationship? While I don't know the exact mechanics of even my favorite (Xotic) they do much less physical from repair to upgrades than many believe.

Here is the link to where I first learned might be any difference between Sager branded and private labels.

Powerpack is indeed correct about the benefits of purchasing through a Sager Reseller, whether it's www.pctorque.com or another reseller. Not only do you get more competitive pricing when you purchase from a reseller but you also have an extra avenue to go to should you ever need assistance, whether it's in the form of customer service or technical support. Think of it as purchasing insurance through an agent rather than through a company directly. The agent is your extra avenue of support, helping you make claims and deal with the insurance company. Similarly, we act on your behalf and get involved to resolve any unlikely impasses you may have with Sager. Anyone who has further questions regarding this can feel free to PM me. .

@Mike and powerpack ...

Thanks for the insight.

Any of these resellers let you buy a laptop with a GTX285M and Win XP or do they all force you to use 7? I know the drivers are out there for XP but i'm lazy and would like to see a company offer XP on a modern laptop. I know AVADirect does but anybody else?

Well since your user name is Irish I will try and help. Your problem is not so much will it work? But can they support? The answer is no! I think Justin @ XoticPC or Mike @ PCtorque could answer better than I.

Good luck!

The ASUS G73JH seems to have XP drivers readily available and the 5870 looks good.

Point is? Yes the G73 does seem to support XP. Sager does not.

But if you are an advanced user you could do.

Many of our customers decide to go ahead and install XP, however we do not (and Sager does not) sell it with XP. We have been told that it runs fine though for those users who chose to purchase XP separately. Hope this helps .

Irish I said advanced users that was a little overstated don't really need to be very advanced to do. There are guides and posts out there about it I am sure. And really not that much involved.

Have you given 7 a try? Why do you like XP so much? For the most part I thought the Vista haters embraced 7 and were going to let XP retire with dignity? DX10 does not have you excited?

7 is better. XP still runs some old stuff sometimes that people want. But honestly, 7 is far, far better.

Certain games that I play online like Splinter Cell Chaos Theory only run on XP. 7 is a great OS and definitely kills Vista. Its a great successor to XP. That being said...I would like to dual boot XP 32 and 7 64 bit for my laptop so that I can play every game I would like.

It would seem there is a fix for that.

I'm not sure if that is 100% accurate. Alienware does carry some Clevo models(unless they have discontinued them). And you can have a Clevo product serviced at Clevo's US service center.

If you have enough memory you can try W7 Ultimate and use the built-in XP Virtualisation for XP games also.

I was under the impression that the XP virtualisation in ultimate had no GPU support.

I assumed it was a 3d game. You know what happens when you assume.
