I'm baffled why people choose different sized notebooks in these comparisons. I would think you'd want to compare two notebooks that have the same size screens. Obviously, if you want a bigger or smaller screen, you should pick one based on that. However, aside from screen size...

I'd go with the Asus for multiple reasons.
  1. it has a dedicated graphics card, which will make videos and games run smoother and better on the system
  2. it has more memory and a bigger capacity (and probably faster) hard drive, which generally improve system performance
  3. from my personal experience as well as a number of reports, the brand is more reliable and makes better quality products

I agree at least if it was me would go Asus same reasons Djembe stated. Why not the 14" version of Asus K42JR-A1?

Any usage info helps us comment and suggest. So does location.

3rd here for the ASUS, if those 2 are the ones you shortlisted.

Sir, I mistakenly pasted the wrong model which is the K42JR...

Anyway, I will use this mainly for office apps, watching HD movies, some music, a little bit of gaming but the online ones...

The K52JR has a screen res of 1366X768, is that ok or is that a low res?

Thanks for the info...

It really depends on your preferences. You can have more windows open at a time and multitask easier if you have a higher resolution screen, but text is also smaller and harder to see on a higher resolution screen.

I would recommend going to a local computer or electronics store and looking at the screens of the notebooks they have. Look for a 15.6" screen with 1366x768 resolution and mess around with the computer to see if that resolution would be usable for you. It should be great for watching movies and you will have higher frame rates in games with that resolution, but it really is a personal decision and everyone has different preferences. So check out some screens in person and decide for yourself!

The K52JR is only core i3 and not i5, wrong processor post...

would that make a difference in your suggestions??

not really. The i3 processors don't have Turbo Boost, but they still perform well.

The K52JR and K42JR I am looking at are A1's and they do have i5 for $869. On the resolution issue yea I find it low on the 15.6" but less so on the 14". The highest 14" mainstream is WXGA+ so just a little higher. I have not seen 1600x900 yet on a 14". At the price point I think you will not be able to get much higher.
