I don't have a a lot Asus background knowledge but from what I understand the W90 used a reverse MXM slot. Plus it was the only 4870 with 512MB GDDR3.

Desktops are a different animal - they all have to be complatible. laptops Not so much.
It would be cool if there was an industry wide standard where you could swap cards from one laptop to the next but I feel certain enough to know that will never happen. Take into consideration, build design, power reqs, etc etc it would be a headache
