Gateway M-6873h - Can I install more than 4GB DDR2 RAM?

Title says it all - has anyone tried installing more than 4GB of RAM in this notebook (or others in this series)? I'm running Windows 7 64-bit and would love some more RAM to play with. I've already upraded to a 7200 rpm drive and a T9300.

I don't think that the current Intel PM965 chipset would allow more than 4GB support.

Thank you for your reply - I hadn't thought to investigate through the chipset. If you're right, I'm sort of bummed, but if I am being honest with myself, there is not much reason for me to go beyond 4GB, given my normal usage of the notebook.

I'll look into the chipset and report back here if I find anything to the contrary.

Okay dokay.

This Intel link would indicate 4GB is the max the chipset supports? Unless an update?

Yeah, my digging around on Intel's site (and of the document to which you've linked) suggest that 4GB is indeed the limit for this chipset. An update would be nice, but I can't imagine see how this could be done?

Oh well... I guess I'll just have to get another notebook

4gb is plenty for any OS at the moment unless you are thing about running VM galore

Agreed 4GB is more than enough. But of course we all want more? Even if we don't need.

Yup - no argument from me. I've yet to come close to running out of memory on this system - I just want more! Not very rational...
