6935G 5.1 problems

Thread Starter
I've just done a clean install of Windows 7 64bit and installed the latest Realtek HD driver (2.42) from their site, selected 5.1 in the sound properties through Windows and Audio Manager but when I playback media the sound is still tinny and only 2.0.
I haven't installed anything else and let Windows find the other drivers for my 9600M GS etc

This is the second time I've installed the OS as facing the same problem before and thought it might have been a corrupt installation or something.

Anybody able to help me?

Long shot here:

Right click the icon for sound, playback devices-> speakers-> properties-> enhancements and check DISABLE all sound effects.

What about using the driver that comes from Acer Support Site? Or use this sticky to get the drivers for Windows 7?

I have that installation disk but there are so many drivers on it I'm lost lol

I've so far tried the vista and windows 7 driver from the acer site, 2.42, 2.40, 2.41 and 1.-- from Realtek and third party sites - none has worked! I just don't get it!?

What about BIOS version? Review it and update it if you have not done so.

Don't know , but u cud uninstall Realtek in device manager, then use Empowering Technology, eRecovery and reinstall ? I have had audio problems where the Subwoofer stopped working, and just uninstalled then reinstalled and it worked fine again, cos it sounded really bad without the Subwoofer.........Just a suggestion,,,,cos I have Vista, so don't know about Windows 7.
