hi everyone. so im pretty sure i want to buy an upgrade for my d800...my current geforce 4200 runs far cry alright, but im looking to the future.

anyway, what is dell charging these days for a 9600 pro with 128 ram? is it possible to buy it somewhere else for cheaper (reputable...not some random ebayer). also...is a 9600 my best choice? seems like nvidia cards dont run as fast, and this 9600 is the end of the line for my d800 form factor. any help is greatly appreciated. thanks.

The MR9600PT is basically the best option for your current situation as you rightly guessed (although the QuadroFX 1000 as in the M60 would also be a good bet if you could get your hands on it). At the moment, it is almost certain to be end-of-line for this particular form factor.

However, the only place you are likely to find this card is from Dell spare parts or from ebay. Because it is a proprietory part that is specifically made in that one form factor... you cannot get one that will work except the Dell made one, which is why your choice of purchase location is limited.

It is part Number H3251 or F3515 from Dell spare parts and will put you out of pocket approximately US$228 plus shipping.

I am not sure about the D800 heating situation..... but you may or may not be required to do the Heat modification as performed installing it in the i8500. See how it goes first, if you are getting hard shutdowns when playing games, etc then the mod would have to be done.

Hope that helped,

stu

You should be able to sell them no problem via this forum.

How much did DSP charge you including shipping and handling for each GPU?

hmm...i assume you are looking for about 370, then? i think i might wait for a bit and go for the 9600 as this seems to be the better choice for games and cheaper. thanks for the offer though.

Not $370, but $371...LOL...that $1 is important...and of course, whatever it costs to ship to ya...no sweat about not wanting the QFX1000, either card is top notch, the M10 is better value for the $$$
