Ztronics Laptop Repair

So I have an Alienware Area-51 7700m laptop that I have been unable to get working for quite some time now. Obviously it's out of warranty and I'm pretty certain that the video card and/or motherboard needs to be replaced. I purchased this notebook when the ATI Radeon x800 was available (being the idiot I was not getting the Nvidia) and I've been wanting to get a different video card for this notebook. I've been notified that in order to use any of the higher-end video cards for this notebook (IE: Nvidia GeForce Go 7950GTX 512MB) the motherboard version needs to be v6.1 and over. So the motherboard and video card failing may have been the push I need to upgrade. I've seen a website online called Ztronics that sells parts for the 7700m and they will also diagnose and install the parts if I send the notebook in (obviously).

So here's the question: Has anyone here on the forums sent in their laptop to Ztronics? I wanted to get some info from someone who's sent it in to this place before I send my notebook I spent $5000 for to get it repaired (granted it's not even close to being worth that). I checked them out on the BBB's website, and they gave them an "F" in terms of a grade, but then again there's only a few reviews on the BBB's website regarding their service. So here I am requesting some insight on this company. Any help is much appreciated!

Hello; Unless there is some compelling reason to keep this computer. Purchase a new one There are a lot of very good laptops, that have more powerful processors, graphic cards, larger, faster hard drives, and warranty's (they also weigh much less).

If you must have a 7700, there are a number of company's that sell refurbished 7700s with a number of available processors and graphic cards (also with a warranty).

Ether of these options will cost you less than your stated repair bill.

Whoops, if I gave the impression that I spent $5000 to repair this laptop I apologize. According to the website it will cost around $500 to repair the notebook with the original components. Sorry.

$500 is a flat rate regardless of service types? I personally find it is fair for $100 to take the notebook apart and put it back, then the rest goes to parts. Would they give you an exact cost before fixing it?

cheers ...

If you want to know about Ztronics, go to Ebay and read about them from the input that people have left (their ratings). I know that they have a store sight on Ebay and that they sell computers and offer repair repair parts for computers.

Each time they do a transaction (Ztronics), the buyer rates the price, service, and did they deliver the product as stated. Plus you can read what each customer thoughts about the transaction.

I think this type of report card is better than BBB. When I person contacts the BBB it is a complaint, they do not go out of their way to say how good they have been treated. On the other hand Ebay's site tells you the good and the bad and lets you decide for yourself.

Jessie on ebay rating being better than BBB. I think the ebay is good but to say either is better I disagree. I think both add to a more complete picture. BBB is much better vetted and that has value to the consumer. BBB tries to be an unbiased resonable 3rd party. If either side can't/won't participate/be reasonable that gives you a much better understanding. Some businesses and some consumers are unreasonable. Yes BBB is complaint driven. For me while I am happy for the 97 happy customers the BBB does not deal with I do like the more in depth practice of the BBB on the 3 unhappy and how they were handled.

To each his own I like both and almost never think too much info is possible.

I understand what you are saying. I did not look at the scores for Ztronics so I don't know if they are good or bad, I tried to use Ebay's score card as a point of reference.

I also understand that in any business there are a small percent of customers that will never be happy no matter what you do for them. That is why I use Ebay as a resource, when you look at what is reported by the people that have ether purchased something or used some service, you see the good and bad. The BBB reports on the complaints (the bad) that it receives and and gives a rating on how well the offending company deals with the problem. As you see the BBB only is contacted if there is a problem. I like to see both sides of the coin (good and bad).
