I mean since you are just trying to get by until new notebook I say get cheap. I am no expert on this I bought one several years ago for $90? It looked nice I could take movies even pictures. My Asus has built in. It really seems like Web Cams are not pushing any technological envelopes so not thinking you can go wrong.

I went to NewEgg and clicked on them, then the interface, picked USB. They have a Logitech for $30? I say can't go wrong with that? I trust the brand. But they start at $10. 1.3MP seems to be the standard. Have a look, link. Then if questions on a certain model we can discuss. And of course if someone has vast knowledge I hope they post.

But to be honest all you need is one that works and won't break 2 days later. Not a hard set of requirements. How much is missing a few bells and whistles going to destroy the user experience in such a short term stop gap situation as yours? Yea don't think a lot.

Best of luck.

hm, looking for $20-25 price range or lower. how about creative? i know they are cheap, but are they good/ok, and last? i just wanna be able to see/talk to my friend in MI. and would these work with skype or msn messenger? she has msn, but i wanna try skype... not sure how skype works... are there certain ones that are compatible with it?

I got my HP 2MP on eBay for less than $20 a while back. New with non-original box.

Skype works with most "cheap" cams. If the comp recognizes the device, Skype can use it.

Yep! There are some chat apps that would work with multiple accounts like Trillian ...
