i think ati puts in their better batch of mem (higher clockable ones) in the 256
so far every 128mb 9700 lappy owner got theirs defaulted at around 390-400core and 200-205 mem
Rincewind, the fact that there are two batches of memory isn't the issue here. We've already agreed on that long ago. At issue is the performance of some 128 meg ATI cards. Look here:http://notebookforums.com/showthread.php?t=13948
These #'s are from various Inspiron 8600 owners with their 9600 Pro Turbo. Look familiar? The performance #'s are identical. What I'm trying to get at is that if someone was to advertise a 9700 video card, it better well perform like it. ATI has proven it's done this song and dance before as Flashram said with their 9000/9200 fiasco (oh, it's a 9200, oh wait, 9000, oh wait...you get the idea). I mean, I'm trying not to carry around a tinfoil hat on this matter but come on, a difference of 33% total OC'ed performance!? I have never, ever, ever seen a video card manufacturer have performance differences that much with the same video card (short of certain cards users would hack i.e. 9500 to 9700 mods).
We're just trying to find out what the heck is going on here.
