<--- the outsider looking in,
I think you guys maybe buying into the marketing hype that fuels g card companies future R&D. In otherwords I think it is pretty unrealisitic that from year to year, one level to the next, that you will see any gains greater than 20%. lets be honest about that 20% and consider that there are not any true unbiased, low error <.005, benchamrks availbile for every type of computer.

I think we get tunnel vision looking at 2-300 points on a 3k+ scale. who cares? All I know is that reading this article I have droped a voodoo from my list of possibles, infact I redid the list, and simply added the 6809 and the acer 3200 mix. No offenese but if you are spending 2k+ on a laptop you are being taken.....

Ok nobody wants to host the big file, so I dumped the junk on a geocities account.
Comparison: http://www.geocities.com/irn_mdn_eddie

They're the same down to the paint on the chip, the layout of components, the routing of wires. I only wish we knew if the actual GPU chip was a genuine M11.

Enjoy.

HOLY CRAPO!!!!!!!!
When finally i tought I found the "perfect" notebook to buy.... Now what? Should I wait for an emachines version? or hypersonic? or go Dothan? or stay with my beloved desktops??? damn it.....

Anyway, pretty good review man!!!!! You should make a work out of it!

well the ferrari 3200 did look promising (with its true mobile athlon64 2800 + and m11 9700 card, but it suffers from a 4200rpm hd which isnt customizable on order... you'd have to mod it yourself and u void the warranty doing so)

there are also centrino systems (dothan coming in a few days) packaged with the m11 9700 cards that i'd consider getting as well...

stay clear of p4's if u dont want a laptop that lasts 1 hr+, gets hot, and is loud

For the record, the XPS does not get hot in games and is not loud (when I'm playing I don't hear the fans over the speakers.

Battery life, though, is short...

so if ur speakers werent on ...

and u were in a lecture hall taking notes on word... could u still hear the fan?

i guess my defintion of loud is if i hear something~

my notebook doesnt make any noise under general use
cant hear anything if room was dead silent... only if i stuck my ear physically on the notebook could i hear the HD

Well, it's been a long time since I've been in a lecture hall, so I haven't tested that one. But when I'm doing email etc. for work I don't notice the fans - not sure if they never come on at that time or if they're just quiet enough not to be a problem.

Having said that, if I was going to use a system for going to classes and taking notes I'd want a subnote, not a DTR, just for portability and battery life reasons.

Voodoo M:860 VS Emachines M680x and some info on how to get your Emachine M680x upgraded to "Voodoo levels of performance" saving you $1800.00.
So similar you'll wonder where all that extra money went.

Thanks to h00ligan for hosting this 5MB PDF!

To this day the President of Voodoo has not made one statement since I proved him a liar. And funny enough my threads on the Voodoo message board have begun to disappear.

Where oh where is that M:860's third speaker...
