The notebook powering game just heated up a little. Panasonic has announced a new silicon-alloy based battery, to be released in FY 2012, which they claim will boost power by 30%. Additionally the company claims that the battery will still be able to hold 80% of it charge after 500 recharge cycles.

According to tech on, the batteries could also allow for shrinking of notebook battery packs, almost in half, which would give us a little bit more room for fun stuff. Each cell weighs about 54g, roughly 10g more than existing tech, and maintains roughly same energy/weight ratio though they feel that given time, they can raise efficiency even more and hope to eventually install these into electric cars.
