Thread Starter
I want to replace the HD in my P 7811 FX notebook. I was looking for some instructions as to how to remove the old hard drive.

Just remove the cover at the bottom, 2 screws and you can pull it out easily.

We also have instruction in the stickies here (P-68xx)

Are you aware that the pics in Spinachs thread are no longer there. He must have moved them from his upload site. Good thread, but doesnt mean much with no pics

easy to do as qhn mentioned.

To replace existing drive

undo the 4 screws holding the bottom plate on.

slide the cradle out, it has a pull tab attached to it

remove 4 screws holding HDD in cradle

install new HDD into cradle using the 4 screws you removed

slide cradle back into place

reinstall backplate with 4 screws .

To add 2nd HDD in 2nd empty bay

undo the 4 screws holding the bottom plate on.

slide the cradle out, it has a pull tab attached to it

There should be a piece of foil like material covering the sata connector, remove it.

install HDD in cradle (you will need to find 4 screws though as there are no screws in the cradle)

slide cradle back in place

reinstall back plate.

Why not just leave the existing drive in place and install you new drive in the 2nd slot??????

True. The latest BIOS allows the handling of RAID on this model also. But 2 drives in notebooks is always nice.
