BFBC2 & L4D2 someone please help.

Thread Starter
I bought a Asus laptop about a year ago, The gaming "G50" model. It is orange and black and is suppose to be for gaming.

ANYWAY, I absolutely love everything about this laptop, but lately it has been giving me problems

As soon as Left 4 dead 2 came out, I decided to buy it being that I played Left 4 dead flawlessly. I played for a few week and then I started to notice what seemed to be a "lag" problem. However, my ping remained around 20-30. I also use my laptop in my apartment AND my parents house so it certainly is NOT my connection. Anyway, it progressively got worse, as if I was downloading something in the backround or as if something was running heavily in the backround, it would be 30-45 second lag sessions followed by normal performance, switching back and forth. I ended up trying to clean a few things up so I did the following:
  1. un-installed un-needed programs
  2. made sure my virus scanner was set up correctly
  3. made sure my firewall wasnt blocking anything
  4. made sure CPU usage while gaming was at a minimum
That solved NOTHING, so I decided to buy battlefield bad company 2 and now that game is acting up even worse so I tried
  1. defragging
  2. disk clean up
  3. checking for errors
  4. deleting temp i-net files, history, etc
  5. updating video card drivers
  6. tried playing the games on lowered settings
And still nothing. I am very upset that I am now out of $100 and cant game on my GAMING laptop. I am out of options besides bringing it to geeksquad or something this week - or any other suggestions!?!?!? (I have spring break so its the only time to due so, but im pretty broke right now ) unless someone has advice for me. I am NOT compute savy for saying "reformat it" isn't going to help me out very much.

My comp specs are:
  • Asus G50
  • Vista 64
  • 2.53ghz
  • Nvidia GeForce 9800M GS
Does anyone have any ideas what could possibly be going on? The computer only acts up when I am playing games. From browsing to youtube everything works flawlessly.

Anyone have any idea? please help. Thank you so much in advance

Sounds like you're overheating. You might want to consider taking apart the fan and heatsink assembly and using a can of compressed air to blow the dust out of it. After that, you should be fine. Good luck

Classic case of over-heating. Happens to all of us mobile gamers.
