ASUS N82 JQ/JV

HI. I couldn't help to start this thread about upcoming 14" laptop from ASUS being a proud owner of N81, and eagerly awaiting official release of N82. Asus did it again...packed incredible power in this small factor lappy.
I am talking Core i7 , USB 3.0, Nvidia Optimus featuring GeForce GT 335m with 1GB VRAM, sound card and webcam. Well see it for yourself below:

So what do you think? There is a YouTube video from CeBit covering this beasts looks and stickers. Please note, that the entire footage is commented on in German, and the subject laptop is actually JV version, which has core i5 on board as opposed to JQ version with quad Core i7. Personally, I think it looks fantastic.

There is a chinese website which did review in chinese language of course, posting some interesting numbers from 3D Mark Vantage with GPU scoring 14712 and Mark Total is 12246. Speaking of Vantage...Is there anybody who could relate 3d mark Vantage numbers to the regular 3D Mark 06 since I did not follow Vantage scores before at all. Link to the Chinese review, in case some are trilingual is HERE. PS: I apologize if I failed to identify the language of the review correctly. Ltr Over&Out

Exactly . That puzzles me also as the US date was set for end of FEB. I am following this lappy since beginning of 2010 and the first time it was mentioned was Feb 3rd on Engadget`s tech site. Only fact in the article is USB 3.0. Rest are just speculations. With CeBit being over now, I am bit confused because nobody actually reported any news except the german video and some competing forum sites... I was hoping that perhaps qhn could shed some light on this from CeBit

BTW, anybody who could translate 3D Mark Vantage score of 12246 into the 3D Mark 06 values, please? I mean, if there`s at least a bit of parity between Vantage and 06 values, it just screams N82 FTW!!!

That number seems very high (I would say impossibly high) for 3DMark Vantage. The general rule is that each successive 3DMark benchmark will have lower scores than the preceding one for the same hardware. If you notice, all the NBF 3DMark Vantage scores of over 10,000 are all from notebooks with dual high-end video cards. The N82 has one performance midrange video card that, according to Notebook Check, averages around 6000 in 3DMark06 and under 3000 in 3DMark Vantage. The quad-core i7 processor would likely bump that up a little, but not nearly to the levels you mentioned. It's possible that the numbers being referred to were from 3DMark05, but certainly could not have been for anything newer.

Tnx Qhn! Regarding the Vantage scores, I have to agree with your analysis, Djembe. Notebookcheck is about right with the numbers. Who knows what is the screenshot on the chinese site related to. I am kind of disappointed regarding 335m`s performance if NBcheck is actually accurate since my old N81 (my 3D Mark 06 details HERE) is able to hit 7800 with slight o'cing. I shall not give up on ASUS yet though. Just spotted N61 with core i7 and ATI HD 5730, open box for only $735 (once you know youre NEWEGG o_O). I think I am sold. There is no point in waiting for N82 anymore, not when it fails to evolve...in the gaming way of course. I wish it comes with more than GeForce 335m.Tnx ALL!

Update on N82

Two updates related to the N82:
1. The n82 is now listed in the downloads section of the Asus website.
2. I just spoke to an Asus rep that told me that they have a list of all notebooks that will be release this month. The N82 is not on that list.

Recently came upon this thread in search of more information on this notebook because I'm in the market for one and was hoping for some good news. Can anyone confirm the timeframe for this notebook's release?

Odd, because as I mentioned, I spoke to an Asus rep this morning that told me that it is not on their list for release this month.

From what I read and learned from this CeBIT in Hannover, the N43/N63/N73 will be coming out (released) a bit late since they have newer configurations. The rest should be out by end of April when the parts are all caught up from suppliers.

Here is a dug up link about the N82 arrival for many shops in Germany. Nothing changes since its announcement back in March.

Any idea on the difference between the N43 and the N82 in terms of numbers alone?

CPU, GPU and drive are configurable.

Like NBF said.

ASUS is not the only manufacturer that releases stuff for Europe first though. And in this case I do believe that it is due to short supply of the Intel Core i3/i5/i7 more than anything else.

cheers ...

Maybe, I should move, since our country has been going to h_ll in a handbasket for the last 10 years. And, I do love belgian beer, german worst, british pubs, and the mentality of most of the people over there. Perhaps, Mr. Depp had the right idea. And, all for a computer.

Before you move for a computer, consider that computers are generally much less expensive in the US than in Europe. The support tends to be better in the US as well.
