ASUS N82 JQ/JV - Page 2

Prices seem to be the same here and there lately. But yes, support would probably be better in the states. Still in Europe it is an automatic 2 years warranty on any electrical devices (notebooks inclusive) that one does not have to pay extra for it.

cheers ...

Although Asus has that warranty everywhere, so it doesn't matter if you're looking at an Asus notebook.

True. Difference is that in Europe you take the machines back to where you bought them from and be done with it. No running around with mailing in or discussing with manufacturers support. There are rules, of course. The product must be registered asap, and there is no break in waiting for repair/replacement

When they become available in Europe, could someone post it on this site. Thx.

Does anyone know if this is legit. It's a Portugese site. Can't tell if they are pre-orders or claim to be in stock.

The asus is a real nice laptop. Too bad it isnt on sale in the UK yet. Hopefull it will be, am pretty sure it will be a big hit here.
Any news on this laptop? News on when it will be available here in the US?
There is some speculation that Asus is releasing some units this Wednesday, so it's possible that it will be introduced then.

Regarding UK availability, from an e-mail response some guy on NBR got from Asus UK, it doesn't look like it will be available there.

Do you have any thoughts about the HP Envy 14? Looks pretty good (no brown, thinner, slot load, no weird cover on inputs), except for no optimus. Starting to think I might wait a bit longer....
Im actualy thinking about the same thing Demiller, but these factors would really drive me to get the Asus Laptop:

1) Trusted!!! I have had 3 asus laptops and they are very reliable, not to mention the fact that I actualy live permanently in the phil (Working in the US now). The coverage of the warranty in the Philippines is great, and im sure thats true for the other countries as well.
2) Cost, I honestly think the Asus notebook will cost less.
3) Optimus! The battery life of the Envy would probably be decent, but I honestly hope that the Asus bat life would be better cuz of the optimus.

Experts - Do you guys think that vid card of HP Envy is better than the Asus N82J? What is your take?
The video card in the Envy is definitely better. It's not "in a different class" better, but it would probably be noticeable if you were looking at the same game being played side by side at high settings.

I'd definitely agree with you that warranty and build quality are generally better with Asus and that the N82 will likely cost less. I'm guessing that battery life (without the Envy's extra battery) will likely be a toss-up, but we'll find out in a month or so.
Thanks Djembe! I am eagerly waiting for the N82J (Sold my laptop prematurely and now i dont have a laptop!).

I do play a lot of games, but im ok as long as the N82J would be able to play current games on decent settings. Is there any other 14inch laptops out there that are better than N82J and Envy? Oh and by the way, would you know what the estimate bat life is for N82 or envy?

I was suppose to buy the 15inch macbook but wow, the price is just too much for me..
Stay with the N82J. From what I have seen and (physically) played with the comp at ceBIT it is a solid system. Can't say anything about the Envy since I have yet to experience it, only reading specs.

cheers ...

Not really. For a decently powerful notebook with a small but readable screen size, you've basically got the Sony Z series (13" screen & Nvidia GT 335M video card), Asus N82 series (14" screen & Nvidia GT 335M video card w/Optimus), HP Envy 14 (14" screen & ATI 5650 video card), & upcoming Asus N43 series (14" screen, Nvidia 400-series graphics w/Optimus, expected later this year)

From existing reviews, it looks like 3 hours. HP says the Envy 14 will last 7 hours, but I believe that about as much as I believe campaigning politicians.
The Sony Z series costs a L O T! Id get the Macbook if thats the case.. Ok, so ill wait for the Asus N82 then! great thanks for all the help guys

Thread Starter
Hey guys. Been busy for a while, but never stopped following the thread. Finally it's out! It seems very sleek especially the color of that scratchproof surface .
Anyway, link to the first you tube review follows (kind of cumbersome to look it up on YouTube as it appears only under full name):

There is one thing that kind of holds me back...the W7 index score for gaming is exactly the same (6.6) as my old n81 with 4650...refer to my benchmarks post HERE, and see for yourself...
