Ok Dell has agreed to replace my XPS M1710 need your help!

Like every horror story you hear about the XPS M1710 with constant complaints regarding overheating issues with useless refurbished replacement parts constantly being sent to your residence by DELL with no fix, DELL has finally decided to replace my notebook. After speaking with the manager I get a feeling that they may try and shaft me with a non-gaming laptop by handing me down a Studio series Notebook. Though I did clearly state that I would not be willing to settling for anything less than a 17 inch LCD. My biggest complaint is that I purchased a GAMING laptop. I have the Nvidia 7950 GTX video card, are there any other VALID arguments that I can bring to the table in 7 days when they contact with my new system info? Other than a Alienware M17x replacement is there another notebook provided by DELL that would substitute as a fit for gamer notebook that would be a definite upgrade to be happy with?

The Alienware is the only true gamer from Dell. The XPS 16 (which I currently use) is more multimedia than gaming, plus it's only a 16".

If your willing to battle dell, stick it out for the M17x

But maybe they will surprise you you never know - Dell has been very hit/miss when it came to this.

In some cases they also gave members a complete refund - in which they used the funds to buy another laptop of thier choice.

Good luck

I must have a miracle M1710 or something lol. I've had it for over two years and it's never given me any trouble (I take it apart and replace the thermal compound and clean out the dust every 3-6 months though).

Dreading the day I have to go through Dell's support, hopefully it won't be so bad lol.

Depends on how you use your M1710. If I were a casual gamer I'm pretty positive that my M1710 would be holding up to this day with the original parts and no problems. But I'm not a casual gamer nor a hardcore gamer but because games such as World of Warcraft require so many hours of play my M1710 has been to hell and back. However its not my fault DELL advertised a GAMING computer not to mention they even released a World of Warcraft edition M1710. In my opinion if you claim it and advertise it then your going to fix it when it can't handle it.

I'm guilty as well as many others Im sure. Preventive maintenance is the best maintenance. I'm with you, and if Im lucky enough to be a proud owner of a new M17x I'll be doing the exact same thing. Especially replacing the thermal compound every other month.

Every other month on the thermal compound is really pushing it Once a year should be more than plentiful.

cheers ...
